Skynews ^ | August 5, 2018

The action actor became a Russian citizen last year and is a martial arts expert just like President Valdimir Putin.

Russia has handed Hollywood movie star Steven Seagal the task of keeping relations cordial with the United States . The Russian foreign minister announced on Facebook that the actor will be its special envoy for humanitarian ties with the US.

It said Seagal would "facilitate relations between Russia and the United States in the humanitarian field, including cooperation in culture, arts, public and youth exchanges".

The post is unpaid.

Why not? His last good flick was Under Siege.

And the post will provide a good pick up line and may come with diplomatic immunity for scrapes large and small.

Just plain ‘nut-job’ would suffice.

He is from Lansing, Michigan, and he’s like the Detroit version of Billy Jack. I think in the 1990s....if he’d just stuck with making action movies...he would have done fairly well and be successfully retired today.

The only “action” Seagal sees these days is at the all-you-can-eat buffet.

Yeah, but his daughter’s Gamera’s pal.
That’s gotta count for something.

Is Seagal to Russia what Dennis Rodman was to North Korea? What’s going on here? Is there a precedent for American stars becoming diplomats, including Shirley Temple Black?

You may be right

He is an all-around nut job with a specialty in anti-Capitalist Leftism.

My opinion is that Putin created this post for Seagal to make sure that he spent less time in Russia.

Didn’t he renounced his US citizenship and obtained Russian citizenship instead? Didn’t he beat up ex-wife Kelly LeBrock?

Seagal is more complex than most think.Sure we know him from his movies andf have seen recent photos of his tubbification, but Seagal also has connections to the Nyingma Tibetan Community , where he has been recognized as a reincarnate lama.

So if the Dalai Lama has seen some kind of potential in Seagal then there likely is more than meets the eye. Seagal is a conservative in many ways and in others seems to subscribe to some form of leftist double speak. But he could be useful to PDJT, in coming to a genuine personal relationship with Russia’s political leadership. Not a bad thing.

Be careful not to sink into the trap of leftist identity politics and dismiss people like Seagal out of hand. There is a brain in there somewhere and if it helps PDJT, thats not a bad thing at all. He’s far from a Dennis Rodman.

I think he’s an ex-spook like quite a few actors were and are...hiding in plain site is the most difficult cover to blow when one has mastered one’s cover well.

He’ll be running back and forth between Moscow and DC just as fast as his short little legs will carry him.

Didn’t he beat up ex-wife Kelly LeBrock?

I hadn’t heard that but he has a long list of accusations of sexual harassment against women. Most of them actresses in his films or auditioning for his films.
