Trump to Attorney General Jeff Sessions: Stop Mueller probe 'right now'

Trump calls on Attorney General Jeff Sessions to end Robert Mueller's Russia probe immediately, escalating his attacks on the inquiry.

"Attorney General Jeff Sessions should stop this Rigged Witch Hunt right now," the president tweets. "Bob Mueller is totally conflicted, and his 17 Angry Democrats that are doing his dirty work are a disgrace to USA!"

The president's attacks on the special counsel have escalated in recent weeks. Trump's attorney, former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, made headlines on Monday saying that "collusion is not a crime."

================================================================================

President Donald Trump on Wednesday called on Attorney General Jeff Sessions to end Robert Mueller's Russia probe immediately, escalating his attacks on the inquiry.

"Attorney General Jeff Sessions should stop this Rigged Witch Hunt right now," the president wrote in a post on Twitter. "Bob Mueller is totally conflicted, and his 17 Angry Democrats that are doing his dirty work are a disgrace to USA!"

Trump tweet

Trump's tweet came before the trial of ex-campaign chief Paul Manafort entered its second day in federal court in Virginia. Manafort is being tried by Mueller's team.

Sessions, who endorsed Trump's presidential bid during the 2016 campaign, recused himself from the Russia investigation last March, before Mueller was appointed. The investigation is being overseen by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who has defended Mueller against critics in Congress.

Trump has attacked Sessions several times for his recusal. In June, the president wrote in a post on Twitter that Mueller was continuing to investigate "all because Jeff Sessions didn't tell me he was going to recuse himself."

"I would have quickly picked someone else. So much time and money wasted, so many lives ruined...and Sessions knew better than most that there was No Collusion," Trump tweeted.

The office of the special counsel did not immediately respond to a CNBC request for comment Wednesday, and the White House did not immediately respond to a request to elaborate on the president's remarks.

The Department of Justice declined to comment.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., called the president's tweet "just another attempt to make the American people look at his latest shiny object."

In a post on Twitter Wednesday, Schumer quoted the president's tweet and wrote: "The Mueller-Rosenstein investigation is making progress at record speed: 35 indictments, 5 guilty pleas & Trump's campaign chairman on trial."

California congressman Rep. Adam Schiff, the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, called the president's tweet "an attempt to obstruct justice hiding in plain sight."

Schiff tweet

The special counsel is investigating the president's tweets criticizing Sessions as part of a wider inquiry into whether the president has obstructed justice, The New York Times reported last month.

Trump's attacks on the special counsel have escalated in recent weeks. Trump's attorney, former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, made headlines on Monday saying that "collusion is not a crime."

The president doubled down on his attorney's comments, tweeting on Tuesday that "Collusion is not a crime, but that doesn't matter because there was No Collusion (except by Crooked Hillary and the Democrats)!"

It's true that "collusion" is not a word that appears in any criminal statute that Mueller is examining. Mueller, however, has pursued charges involving conspiracy, obstruction of justice and making false statements.

“Mueller, however, has pursued charges involving conspiracy, obstruction of justice and making false statements.”

So, they admit that an investigation was launched in order to look for process crimes.

The only one of these that is not necessarily a process crime is “conspiracy” which makes them conspiracy theorists with NO evidence of any underlying crime being committed.

President Trump is being attacked exclusively because he is implementing his conservative campaign promises. That is his ONLY crime, and the Democrats KNOW this to be true.

Obama and Hillary committed numerous crimes openly but have never been investigated for any of them. Strzok helped Hillary commit obstruction crimes and committed perjury. The very crimes the left is accusing Trump of are the exact ones they have committed.

I think this is a bad idea coming out and directly saying this. President Trump, don’t tweet this, declassify the fisa warrant so the public can see how phony this is.

Yeah, the country can't handle the truth. Trump will declassify the FISA warrant when it is politically advantageous to do so. It could be the Rep October surprise or earlier. Or he will declassify after the Mueller report comes out.

Let's talk about Ken Starr.

Just Trump stirring the pot

Yup. Keep the media and Democrats freaking-out and convince mid-term voters that they're too insane to be entrusted with power.

Sorry Donald, Q knows all, and says “Trust Sessions!” so get with the program. Take the Q red pill. /sarc

“But...but....someone honked a horn! And Q signs at the rally!”

(Useful idiots infest this place, and hangout in their Q safe space. Disinformation campaigns always get suckers. See tagline.)

This whole thing is show and, I believe, has been from day one. And I’m Talking about trump. When someone does something that makes no logical sense (allowing Sessions to stay) it means either they are an idiot or they are doing it for reasons and based on information you are not aware of.

It's been explained numerous times on this board how Trump has been hamstrung in his efforts to clean out the DOJ, and what the obstacles are in firing Rosenstein and Sessions.

I'm not sure how you've missed that.

“Yeah, the country can’t handle the truth.”

I assume that’s sarcasm, because it is stunningly stupid and insulting if meant seriously. Releasing dribbles at a time helps bad guys only. Clinton perfected it. Want results? Drop nukes.

It’s not been a priority to me. I watch this whole thing as though it was a movie, not real life. I check out of the parts that don’t interest me. But I think he could fire sessions if he really wanted to.

A tweet isn’t going to have any effect at all. In order to get some action he would have to put it in a letter on White House stationary.

I wonder how other Presidents would have responded to this situation.

I suspect Andy Jackson would have personally shot Sessions and Mueller and dared Congress to impeach him.

But then Jackson would have simply fired Sessions on day one and instructed his replacement to go after the real colluders ( Hillary and friends).

Trump should have fired Sessions as soon as he indicated he was even thinking about recusing himself.
