Activists block trains, protest Minneapolis police shooting

Activists and family members of a black man who was fatally shot by Minneapolis police marched through downtown, blocking trains during the evening rush hour as they chanted some of Thurman Blevins' last words: "Please don't shoot me! Leave me alone!"

Hundreds of people gathered for the protest which started at the Hennepin County Government Center Tuesday evening. They held signs calling for justice for Blevins, who was shot June 23 by Minneapolis officers after they chased him into an alley in north Minneapolis.

Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman declined Monday to charge the officers involved in the incident — Officers Justin Schmidt and Ryan Kelly.

Blevins' family members said he wasn't a danger while he was running away. His sister, Darlynn Blevins, said her brother "ran for his life" because he was scared and the officer "emptied his clip into my brother's back."

Sydnee Brown, Blevins' cousin, said Thurman Blevins "was not an evil man walking the earth."

The protesters also shouted that Freeman "needs to go."

After the rally at the Hennepin County Government Center, the protesters marched along the light rail tracks, shutting down service for nearly an hour as workers were leaving downtown and Minnesota Twins fans were trying to get to a game.

The NAACP is also participating in the protest.

"A lot of people like to justify what happens on legal basis but there's a distinction between law and ethics," NAACP president Leslie Badue said. "Just because something is legal it does not mean it's morally right. And what I'm asking for us is to have our morals guide our laws not our laws to guide our morals."

The officers were responding to a 911 call of a man firing a gun into the air. Freeman said the officers' actions were justified because Blevins was armed, disregarded police instructions and pointed a gun at them.

"When Mr. Blevins fled from the officers with a loaded handgun, refused to follow their commands for him to stop and show his hands and then took the gun out of his pocket and turned toward the officers, Mr. Blevins represented a danger to the lives of Officer Schmidt and Officer Kelly," Freeman said in a statement, noting that Minnesota law allows officers to use deadly force in such circumstances.

” Freeman said the officers’ actions were justified because Blevins was armed, disregarded police instructions and pointed a gun at them. “

I’d say that just about covers this one. If you disregard police instructions and are pointing a gun at the police, …. Well, “ Dat’s da way it goes!

But you have to clean up the resultant biohazard(s), depending on train speed.

I’m nominating Minneapolis as the stupidest city in the country. It has communists/Marxists, idiotic white liberals, black extremists and agitators, and Moslem terrorists, etc.

Now they are supporting a gun-firing/toting threat to society who was killed because he reportedly aimed a loaded weapon at the police.

Let them burn down their own city. I don’t give a damn. Stupid people just stay stupid until someone burns down their house by mistake or just in the fun of things.

If someone did a real historical investigation on extremist groups and ideologies in Minnesota, they would win some kind of history prize because it would expose a Marxist cesspool that has been around since the 30’s/40’s.

This includes some interesting associations of the Secy of State (I think he’s still there), Mark Ritchie(?). Look him up at www.keywiki.org for his background. I’m sure you won’t find it in the Minneapolis Tribune, etc.

How do the accusers know what he said or did? Did they run with the LEOs down that alley?

"What do trains have to do with the Police or shootings?"

Nothing of course to answer your rhetorical question.

It's all about attention seeking social justice wonks in a twisted, libtard, sanctuary city. A black man is shot by a white cops so the boys in the hood gotta get out there and try to tell us what a fine fellow this violent convicted felon really is. Ignore the fact that there was another felony in progress by his possession of a concealed handgun.

So nice to see the NAACP out there telling people to ignore the law: this was a brotha who got shot!!

I don’t think that the cops “chased him into an ally”, I believe the guy chose to run into the ally in an attempt to get away from the cops, who would have probably arrested him as a felon in possession of a firearm, at the very least. In other words, just another dirtbag that Minneapolis is better off without.
