CNN senior White House correspondent Jim Acosta expressed concern on Tuesday with the way President Trump's supporters heckle members of the press, warning that the president's rhetoric could "result in somebody getting hurt."
Acosta posted a video from Trump's rally in Tampa, Fla., on Tuesday showing supporters shouting down members of the press. At one point, one man in the crowd looks into the camera and yells, "stop lying."
"Just a sample of the sad scene we faced at the Trump rally in Tampa," Acosta tweeted. "Im very worried that the hostility whipped up by Trump and some in conservative media will result in somebody getting hurt. We should not treat our fellow Americans this way. The press is not the enemy."
Trump has made his ongoing feud with media outlets that cover his administration critically a centerpiece of his brand of politics, often referring to coverage he deems unfavorable to him as "fake news."
He has also repeatedly called reporters the "enemy of the people." That particular accusation was the subject of a meeting earlier this month between Trump and A.G. Sulzberger, the publisher of The New York Times.
Trump revealed the existence of the off-the-record meeting in a tweet on Sunday, writing that the two "spent much time talking about the vast amounts of Fake News being put out by the media & how that Fake News has morphed into phrase, 'Enemy of the People.' "
That prompted a response from Sulzberger, who said in a statement that he had met with the president to urge him to tone town his attacks on the media at large.
"I told him that although the phrase 'fake news' is untrue and harmful, I am far more concerned about his labeling journalists 'the enemy of the people,' " Sulzberger said.
"I warned that this inflammatory language is contributing to a rise in threats against journalists and will lead to violence."
The hatred engendered by media lies will lead to violence against innocent normal people, sometimes called conservatives.
when you begin with a false premise all that follows is illogical.
But the media's rhetoric bashing The President and making [NOT SO] veiled suggestions and threats is OK, Jim?
The media has failed our nation. They missed the chance to honestly and accurately report the actions of the Clintons, such that We the people had to take the 2016 election into our own hands and turn out enmasse to overcome what we knew was a massive voter fraud factored into the voting machines.
Trump brought us his message in spite of the media. And his message was our message, he spoke our language.
I used to have a high regard for Walter Cronkite. I was in 'Nam during the Tet Offensive. I did not know at the time that Walter Cronkite was scaring my poor Mother everyday with his wild tales about the demise of our efforts.
POTUS is correct to call them out. They have been proven to have a political agenda, it is not news and it is not the truth.
Right on cue.
The left started this.
Now, in typical fashion, they attempt to deflect it back.
Never Let A Crisis Go To Waste.
Maybe you might want to be somewhat fair in your reporting. When 82% of your stories about Trump are negative people will not stand for it.
They are fortunate that the side they are on is the violent ones. They probably don’t have to worry about Trump supporters.
Wow. CNN thinks rhetoric can translate into someone getting hurt? ...hummmmmm
The man's incapable of empathizing with anyone OTHER than fellow 'elites' and the pet victim groups that prop up the elites... What a jerk.
“one man in the crowd looks into the camera and yells, “stop lying.””
WOW! Scarwy. Afraid of the TRUTH are we?
“The press is not the enemy.”
Oh YES THEY ARE!
” often referring to coverage he deems unfavorable to him as “fake news.””
When 90% of the news coverage of him is NEGATIVE, what else would you call it except “FAKE”?
“He has also repeatedly called reporters the “enemy of the people.””
You ARE the “enemy of the people.”
” the phrase ‘fake news’ is untrue and harmful”
Just saying that is FAKE NEWS itself!
“this inflammatory language is contributing to a rise in threats against journalists and will lead to violence.””
GOOD! Maybe you should rethink your all out fake news ATTACK on Trump and his supporters.
If you are worried about violence, maybe you should call a wambulance.
“CNN SUCKS” That’s it? That’s what you are worried about?
You post your own video that proves your story is FAKE NEWS!
Jim (will) Accost U, is a TURD! FOAD!
The press is not the enemy.
Pravda pimp
he should be more worried that his leftist media fraud will have him in prison
I’m worried that the media’s dehumanizing of conservatives and Trump supporters will get someone hurt.
acosta is lucky he hasn’t been tarred and feathered and run out of town on a rail...actions have consequences fake news is fake
Great comments....And I agree. The corrupt Democrats have become an ugly disgusting national spectacle.
But he is not concerned about Trump supporters being assaulted or shot like Scalise.
Whiny little b8tches, aren’t they?
I am reminded of this ......
Debating a liberal is like playing chess with a pigeon. No matter how well you play, the pigeon will knock over the pieces, crap on the board, and strut away like they won anyway.
Doesn’t he look down on everyone except when he is in the press room. Then he is looking at himself.
