Small number of 'slowpokes' cited so far, but police say new law improves safety (Idaho)

Only two Idaho drivers have been cited for driving too slowly in the fast lane since the state’s new “slowpoke” law took effect July 1. Three other drivers got warnings that they better go the speed limit in the left lane or scoot over.

Those numbers, current as of July 27, are from the Idaho State Police, which patrols the state’s highways. Tickets for speeding during that time frame — numbering 2,495 — far surpass these five cases of impeding fast-lane traffic.

Even so, the new law gives troopers another tool to keep roads safer, said bill sponsor Rep. Lance Clow, R-Twin Falls.

It is amazing how many inconsiderate drivers there are. Just yesterday we had a car driving 55 miles an hour in a 65 mile- zone. Sped up to 70 when we started passing. What an Icehole.

I’ve seen that a lot too. It’s very weird behavior. If they wanted to go 70 in the first place; why didn’t they do it when they were going 55 and backing up traffic. Bad driving and some people just don’t like to be passed. I guess they consider it a personal insult or something equally stupid. There’s a particular stretch of road I’ve seen this as a matter of routine. Dirt roads go off in all directions so maybe they are worried a rock from the passing car is going to hit their windshield or something. Especially after or during a rain.

Agree totally - I should have included clueless, as they certainly are a good part of the left-laners - perhaps even the majority....think you nailed it. And clueless probably includes an equal percentage of each sex. Altho with men it’s probably more like, “I could give a rip about anybody else...”

Thank you......

Hey - what if we do a Freeper survey?.....like this....

“CALLING ALL FREEPERS WHO LOVE TO DRIVE STAYING IN THE LEFT LANE!
Can you please let the rest of us know WHY you do it?”

Good ques...I live in the sticks in eastern Idaho and only get to the “BIG” city once or twice a year, (usually at least once a year to go to a Boise State football game). I have seen the Don’t Be a GUBERIF stencils on highways...can’t recall the last place I saw one?

There are slow-traffic turnouts on Highway 93 between Salmon and Challis and they are signed and state the requirement to pull over if there are 3 vehicles following.

Idaho is still a wonderful place to live...but don’t tell anyone!
