I don't know what to tell you. Not even beauty parlors had blow dryers until hippies came along. My older sister got a portable dryer sometime after the Beatles!

I don't know where you grew up but yes they did have blow dryers in beauty salons in the 50's even in the 40's. My mother went to beauty school in the 50's and she later had a home dryer with a plastic cap that inflated and you sat under it and dried your hair at home.

Before the rise of mass electronic communications, chain stores and mass marketing in roughly the mid- to late 70s, localities had very distinctive differences. When my husband and I were sent from the northeast to a military base in a more rural part of the country in the late 60s, the movie theaters had films that were a year old. They never got first run films. On the other hand, the surrounding scenery and wildlife were glorious, things we couldn't have at home in our big industrial city.
