A new report from the RAND Corporation analyzed survey data from thousands of active-duty military members and found Marines are more likely to be heavy drinkers, use tobacco and engage in riskier sexual behavior than the sailors, soldiers and airmen of the other branches.
RAND found that incidents of binge drinking and hazardous drinking among Marines was almost double what it was in the Air Force.
Nearly half of the Marines surveyed reported drinking habits that met the criteria for hazardous (alcoholism).
The survey also revealed Marines were more likely to have had more than one sex partner of the course of one year and were less likely to use condoms with new partners.
Dr. Sarah Meadows, a senior sociologist at RAND who helped lead the study, said Were not trying to blame anyone for this, but the Marine Corps does tend to stand out, she said.
The type of person who joins the Marines is not necessarily the type of person who joins the Air Force.
Marines led in tobacco use as well.

Reminds me of the best year of my life.....1970 rotated from I Corps RVN to MCRD San Diego. Seemingly indestructible first lieutenant with nothing in sight but nurses and teachers.......
Here's health to you and to our Corps
Which we are proud to serve;
In many a strife we've fought for life
And never lost our nerve. If the Army and the Navy
Ever look on Heaven's scenes,
They will find the Angels all paired off
With United States Marines.

The 30mm gatling gun the A-10 is built around.
Because nothing can stop the US Air force. Except lightning within 5 miles.
IYAAYAS.
Lol I like that.
Knew a gunny like that once. He often made little “mistakes” that we’d benefit from. Once he made Top....he stopped with the mistakes.
Come on Top....
;)
Army fies them too.
Nifty kite
On a tour of the south Pacific, Eleanor Roosevelt bragged about the Marines killing so many Japs. She didn’t say Japanese, she said Japs.
Micronesia is a boneyard of ships and planes
The DOD conducted a study to determine the way men from the four branches of service coped with unexpected dangers.
They were all asked this question:
"What would you do if you found a scorpion in your tent?"
The sailor said "I'd stomp on it and squish it."
The soldier said "I'd hammer it to death with my boot."
The Marine said "I'd catch it, bite the stinger off and eat it."
the airman said "I'd call room service to find out why there's a tent in my room."
Great post.
But Marines can be very philosophical also, when my son made sergeant he said: “ A sergeant in the Marine Corps.....top of the food chain.”
Once you make Staff NCO the competition gets much rougher.
Adapt, improvise, overcome.
That’s right.
At the end of the war, any one of the US Navy Fleets was larger than the whole Royal Navy.
He forgot mustangs and never met chief of the boat :)
These people are nothing but “fun stoppers”. I don’t like fun stoppers.
Could we post the words to old cadences on this thread without and account suspensions or deletions? <<
