Times publisher asks Trump to reconsider anti-media rhetoric

The publisher of the New York Times said Sunday he “implored” President Donald Trump at a private White House meeting this month to reconsider his broad attacks on journalists, calling the president’s anti-press rhetoric “not just divisive but increasingly dangerous.”

In a statement, publisher A.G. Sulzberger said he decided to comment publicly after Trump revealed their off-the-record meeting to his more than 53 million Twitter followers on Sunday. Trump’s aides had requested that the July 20 meeting not be made public, Sulzberger said.

[snip] “Had a very good and interesting meeting at the White House with A.G. Sulzberger, Publisher of the New York Times. Spent much time talking about the vast amounts of Fake News being put out by the media & how that Fake News has morphed into phrase, “Enemy of the People.” Sad!” Trump wrote.

Sulzberger, who succeeded his father as publisher on Jan. 1, said his main purpose for accepting the meeting was to “raise concerns about the president’s deeply troubling anti-press rhetoric.”

Sure, just as soon as the media ceases its anti-Trump rhetoric.

The times could start with, I don’t know, maybe reporting simply actual facts?
And leave spin, bias, agenda, and fabrication at the door?

He's not anti-media, he's anti-fake-news.

Try it for yourself, TIME. Try reporting objectively. What do you have to lose?

Somebody sees the end of a mutli-generational propaganda organ
that was on life-support through the Obama administration, and in reality should have died back around the turn of the century.

He shoulda invested his family’s resources in new media if he wanted to continue to be relevant-and learned to represent the interests and needs of the deplorables

The Boston-New York-DC ear tickling has come to an end

Meanwhile, the armed robber’s mother said that it wasn’t *right* that another customer shot him after he threatened to kill everyone in the restaurant.

Maybe the NYT can observe and learn what successful news agencies, do -- report and let the reader decide.

It's not that simple. The most obnoxious lies are lies of ommission.

Not reporting both sides of an issue is the worst sort of lies.

Readers can't possibly decide if the "news" can't be seen under the constant dark cloud of flies... think pasture patties...

Remember the NYT is bleeding financially, this is one of many efforts by Sulzberger to try stop that. Trump knows that so any conversation Trump has is from a position of strength.

Someone place every NY Times article about the Obama presidency along side every article on Trump’s. The gargantuan bias will drop your jaw.

He’s talking to the wrong person. He needs to talk to the rest of his MSM and cable news buddies to get them to knock off all the hate.

President Trump will respond in kind. It’s simply not in Trump’s nature to be kicked and not do something about it.

The partisan media doesn’t like it when you point out they are partisan.

Just as soon as the media will stop their anti-Trump rhetoric, falsely accusing him of everything.

Oh, piff.

The Times doesn't like to be criticized; they feel they're above it. It's a fact they have an important role to play and they're doing a pi$$-poor job of it.

If it was just the Times, that's one thing. When the entire industry has seemingly lost their kinds, that calls for "anti-press rhetoric."
