Pope Francis has allowed U.S. prelate Theodore McCarrick to step down as a cardinal following allegations of sexual abuse, including one involving an 11-year-old boy. The Vatican announced on Saturday that Francis ordered McCarrick to conduct a "life of prayer and penance" even before a church trial is held.
McCarrick was previously one of the highest, most well-known Catholic church officials in the U.S. and was heavily involved the in church's response there to allegations of priestly abuse.
The pope has ordered McCarrick's "suspension from the exercise of any public ministry, together with the obligation to remain in a house yet to be indicated to him, for a life of prayer and penance until the accusations made against him are examined in a regular canonical trial."
The Rev. James Martin, the editor-at-large at America Magazine, which covers U.S. and worldwide church issues, tweeted that McCarrick's resignation means "means removal of the titles Cardinal' and 'Your Eminence."

Yes,I know it wouldn't completely solve the problem.There are certainly some Protestant clergy and rabbis who abuse girls and boys.But if you're a guy married to a woman that means that you've probably got your head screwed on straight (no puns intended) which means that you're probably not gonna be hitting on kids...of either gender.

A guy who's married to a woman is,everything else being equal,less likely to be hitting on kids.So we're not talking "prevention",we're talking about decreasing the likelihood.

The problem is deviants have for centuries been active in the catholic church, aided by the various Popes and Vatican officials who covered for those deeds. Unfortunately because they refused to rid the church of this scum it then was a safe harbor for gays and other deviates to heavily infiltrate.....and they did.
Not really.....regardless of which way a Priest goes it’s still a matter of control.

Control? If one is inclined to hit on kids they're gonna do it.I don't have such an inclination and never have so I don't need to exercise "control".And I'll wager the same is true with you.
We don't want anyone who's even *inclined* to hit on kids in the priesthood.
Please note that I never claimed that married priests would never do wrong.All I suggested was that a priest married to a woman would be less likely to misuse boys and girls.
