The Whiskeytown fire has gotten out of control. Huge walls of fire have now rolled through the western portions of the city of Redding, CA that has a population of around 90,000. There are reports of Fire Tornados ripping through neighborhoods. The Sacramento River was breached. Evacuations on going. Mass confusion. Firefighters have stopped working to fire and have go to a life saving mode to rescue those that they can. Entire neighborhoods are gone. No estimate on the number of homes lost right now. Redding Police and Shasta County Sheriff's Department can not pinpoint road closures as the fire is moving too fast. Redding Electric Untily has cut power to ensure line viabilty.
Fire is around 29,000 acres and six percent contained down from ten percent earlier.
So far the fire has not breeched Highway 5 but is approaching it from the west. #CARRFire

A high percentage of these “wildfires” are caused by humans, most often by deliberate arson.
It has been reported that the CARR (this one) began when a car with a flat tire stopped along the road way.
It is very dry now in Northern California and it would not take much to start a fire. Add to the high winds over the past few days and a small fire can grow large quickly.

The Carr Fire was sparked Monday afternoon by what CalFire described as a mechanical failure of a vehicle on Highway 299 west of Whiskeytown Lake.

The fire twitter page has lots of pictures and video as well as good updates. Local folks can’t believe the TV stations are in reruns and that CNN is still just Trump bashing as a major city burns.
Someone who prefers live firefighters to crispy “martyrs” when property is the biggest stake against their lives.

Good God, what a horror show... All those poor people, losing everything.
Pilots of the Tokyo firebombing reported seeing debris the size of house doors in the air at 5000’. The turbulence was so great at altitude that is caused one bomber to break up in flight.
This may rival the Santa Rosa fires from last years. I hope and pray that the air attack is set up for daylight and they give command to a tier 1 team.

Looked at 2 week weather forecast...barring a divine miracle, Redding suppose to be over 100 for next half month...no rain...temp not falling below 67 to 70 at night...110 today...108 Sat.
