The Whiskeytown fire has gotten out of control. Huge walls of fire have now rolled through the western portions of the city of Redding, CA that has a population of around 90,000. There are reports of Fire Tornados ripping through neighborhoods. The Sacramento River was breached. Evacuations on going. Mass confusion. Firefighters have stopped working to fire and have go to a life saving mode to rescue those that they can. Entire neighborhoods are gone. No estimate on the number of homes lost right now. Redding Police and Shasta County Sheriff's Department can not pinpoint road closures as the fire is moving too fast. Redding Electric Untily has cut power to ensure line viabilty.
Fire is around 29,000 acres and six percent contained down from ten percent earlier.
So far the fire has not breeched Highway 5 but is approaching it from the west. #CARRFire
. Don’t think it’s a good fit for the suburbs.

We were evacuated for CO wildfire for nearly two weeks beginning 6/27. It was at least the third and perhaps even the second largest in CO history, burning somewhere around 107,000 acres. 134 homes destroyed in our development, ours was mercifully left intact.
Terrible year for wildfires. Because of the evacuation I’ve been out of the news-loop. Is there any word on what caused this fire? Or the one in Greece, where I read at least 91 are dead? Thanks to anyone who knows.
That is such good news Thud! Thanks for the update.
I didn’t hear about that, but I did hear about a B-29 getting inverted in flight (flipped upside down) over a firebombed Japanese city.
There’s a multi part series on Youtube along the lines of ‘tokyo fire bombing in color’ where pilots are interviewed. That’s where I saw it.
Hey, PB:) The fire officials say a vehicle with a flat drove on it and eventually the metal friction from rim sparked a fire. Obviously very small at first but conditions were perfect...
Another big fire, I think Cranston fire in SoCal was an arsonist who’s been arrested.
Amazing. I have always heard it said that a modern jet aircraft like a 737 would not be in danger of structural failure if it were, say, flying through a thunderstorm. I would have thought the same of a B-29, but that might be a stretch now that I think of it.
Thank you.
Riverside is about 500 miles south. Fires not connected.
The authorities already know the cause of the CARR fire, it was a car.
Yes, I know. I was talking about the arson fire in the Palm Springs area, not the flat tire Redding fire.
Sorry - mis-read your comment.
Redding Firenado rated EF3
large transmission towers mangled
trees debarked
