Clyburn: Ocasio-Cortez Should Wait Her Turn Before Trying to Join House Leadership
Wash Beacon ^ | July 25, 2018 | Jack Heretik

Posted on 07/25/2018 11:14:51 PM PDT by upchuck

Rep. James Clyburn (D., S.C.), the House assistant minority leader, said Wednesday that congressional candidate Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez will need to wait her turn before she considers joining Democratic Party leadership.

"I would ask her to remember how long I had to wait to get here," Clyburn said on Buzzfeed's "AM to DM."

Clyburn also said many younger activists don't have the proper respect for older ones, such as himself, who dealt with segregation and civil rights in the Jim Crow-era South.

"Let’s not forget the history of all of this," Clyburn said. "And I think that all of the folks who have that mentality seem not to give much respect to those of us who sat in jails, as I did, so that they would have the kind of activities or the kinds of rights that they have today."

"So do I get any credit for being on the cutting edge of all of that?" Clyburn asked. "Or should the credit go to my children and grandchildren who are the beneficiaries of it? I think that we have to balance this out."

Ocasio-Cortez, a 28-year-old democratic socialist who shocked the political world in June with an upset primary win over Rep. Joe Crowley (D., N.Y.) in New York's 14th Congressional District, has aggravated some Democrats, particularly after she accused Crowley of continuing to campaign against her.

Clyburn also responded Wednesday to growing calls within the Democratic Party for new leadership. He has served in House Democratic leadership with Reps. Nancy Pelosi (Calif.) and Steny Hoyer (Md.) for several years, most of which has been in the minority.

"If I begin to show some senility, my wife would be the first one to tell me. And my children would second those emotions very forcefully," Clyburn said.

Why isn’t she in the leadership already? Boy these communist revolutions sure are time consuming.

Clyburn: Ocasio-Cortez Should Wait Her Turn Until She's Elected Before Trying to Join House Leadership

Possible progression:
1. Win primary - done
2. Win election
3. After 5 or 6 subsequent winning elections, begin to think about house leadership (assuming existing house leadership at that time approves)

GROW UP!!

I assume she has to be Elected to the House before she gets anything, but I could be wrong.

I remember Clyburn being dissed by the White Democrat Leadership when he was attempting to become the second in command behind Pelosi.

I guess he hasn’t figured it out. The Commie Latina will end up more powerful than he ever could.

No, she should not. Barge right in there. And make sure to complain loudly about how you’re being discriminated against if anyone gives you any Flack. By all means. By any means necessary.

Clyburn makes a good point about his bona fides. He had to deal with the Jim crow laws and the civil rights stuff, back when there was real discrimination.

On the other hand, Little Miss Latina is a privileged princess sitting on a tuffet. She never picked lettuce. She grew up in an upper middle class neighborhood, and attended the best schools. She has not suffered one minute of racial discrimination in her life. She is surrounded everywhere she shops and lives by oh-so-sensitive northeastern liberals and virtue signalers.

Do you bring home the bacon? Have some sweet side-deals that pay their bills? They won't say a word--and if you think they will you have the first symptoms of senility!

If Obozo could win the Nobel Peace Prize and doing zucking absolutely nothing for World Peace then there is no such thing as “qualifications” anymore.

A dead pig could be perfectly “qualified” as Democrat leader these days.

Well, she could get Speaker - no requirement to be a member there. otherwise, yes, she’d actually have to win.

As far as a leadership position goes, so far as I know, members can nominate themselves.

Like the young people in the late 60’s. Doing drugs, running around free love and demanding control.

This whole media roll out of “She Guevara” is becoming an amusing circus. The “what ifs” of election day will be interesting to observe. Ortiz’ party crashing might have a negative impact on the event horizon.

The dopey open socialist from the Bronx is ruining it for all the closet socialists who are trying to get their blue wave on. Here they dragged out their surf boards only to find a small, miserable puddle of tears.
