Schiff: Trump’s Security Clearances Threat ‘What You See in Authoritarian Regimes’

During a statement on Monday, House Intelligence Committee Ranking Member Representative Adam Schiff (D-CA) said that the White House’s statement that President Trump is looking to revoke former CIA Director John Brennan’s security clearance as well as examining the clearances of several other former officials is “exactly what you see in authoritarian regimes.”

Schiff said, “Today’s action, suggesting that we will punish critics of the president by stripping them of their security clearance, that is not what you see in a democracy. That is exactly what you see in authoritarian regimes.”

He added that the move is a “despicable action…to try to silence critics,” and the “cowardly action of someone who is afraid of criticism.

Can't imagine why political appointees who had worked for the gov't in the past would keep security clearances while career military and civil servants would lose theirs when they retire or leave.

Continuity? Considering the intelligence disasters that have occurred over the last 40+ years, continuity of thoughts and behavior of the management of US intelligence agencies has not been a good thing. Drain the swamp.

I had a top secret clearence with access to encryption codes at the Pentagon and command center in Seoul Korea.
When i left the. Army i was debeiefed and told i would go to prison if i spoke about it too much. Oh yeah and the celarence canceled.

You’re no longer employed doing too security work, you don’t need and should not still have access to sensitive information. Period. End of file. Indeed, that’s standard procedure ( or used to be before obama or whatever his real name may be). If you ever are hired to do top- secret work again, they’ll then vet you and issue you the appropriate security access. No problem. This is how any sensible security system works. Having a bunch of people running around with access to highly sensitive defense secrets - who don’t need that access or that information - is just plain dangerous

He said that Trump was looking to pull security clearance for his “critics”.
