An argument over a handicapped parking spot at a convenience store in Florida led to a fatal shooting and the man who pulled the trigger wont be arrested under the states stand your ground self-defense law, authorities said.
Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri told reporters during a Friday press conference that Thursdays shooting death of Markeis McGlockton, a 28-year-old father of three, is within the bookends of stand your ground and within the bookends of force being justified, the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Im not saying I agree with it, but I dont make that call, Gualtieri told reporters, adding that his agency will now forward the case to the State Attorneys Office for a final decision.

I agree. From our point of view.
I could see him shooting if he continued to assault him. But, that was an exaggerated response - in my opinion.
But don’t get me wrong, these violent AH’s who assault people over petty verbal squabbles deserve to be dealt with by any means, if necessary. I just feel the assault victim should have not pulled the trigger once the attacker started backing off.
And this is why they tell people who want to conceal carry, “Mind your own business and always try to avoid confrontation”, or in this case, playing parking lot cop.
Youre saying the boyfriend responded over aggressively?
I see it the other way around. The shooter should mind his own business or call the police about parking violations.
It seems to me that the shooter feels a bit too confident with a firearm holstered to his belt
Probably always a good rule of thumb, there are way too many mentally ill, kooks and thugs out there to start an issue.
Or perhaps she will now get a CCP as obviously self appointed parking lot cops are crazy.
The force could have severely injured or killed the man. Last week a cop was hit in the head by a rock in MA, cop fell down and dropped his gun, perp picked it up and shot the cop dead. The violent push could be considered life threatening. As far as the man backing away, I think that was after he was shot as his car was closer to the shooter so if he were thru he would have gotten in his car.
No, clearly the BG backed up as WG pulled out his gun, which was immediately after he pushed himself up. BG apparently sees this and backs away, then starts turning away THEN gets shot.
I don’t have a problem with WG pulling his gun, but unless he had poor perspective, he shot a guy retreating at the moment. His showing the gun was enough, probably.
The local talk shows, including some so called conservatives are getting their undies in a twist over the poor innocent ‘family man’ murdered by a white guy.
What a crock.
As has been said before, the boys in the hood are worth more dead than alive.
The baby momma will be given a pile of money from a lawsuit that is most likely being filed now against, the state, county, local authorities and probably the market, and whatever deep pocket entity an ambulance chaser can come up with.
Agree completely with you.
You put your hands on someone youre out of line
Perhaps, but that guy was going off on the woman for a long time. He didnt just state his complain and go. If you encountered someone aggressively yelling at your GF/wife, you may just do the same thing. The live leak video shows the shooter was out of line. There was another person who said the shooter threatened to kill him over a parking situation as well.
The shooter is a little punk who was looking for an issue. I hope he rots in jail.
Some advice for this punk with a concealed carry permit. #1 alone. He was the angry person.
4. Angry People
Some people are just more prone to violent outbursts than others. We know where those people generally hang out. Sure, they can wander outside of their usual spots and theres no guarantee you wont run into them at the store. Still, stay out of places that tend to have lots of angry people looking for fights.
3. Less Than Honorable Practices
If youre a concealed carrier, youre expected to act as a law-abiding citizen. Youre an unwitting ambassador of the community. If youre carrying concealed on your motorcycle, and you decide to whip in and out of traffic just because you can you can safely assume nobody likes you. Thats a pretty big statement. But when youre parked in your car in a tremendous traffic jam and you see a motorcyclists weave and bob between vehicles, youd probably wish they wouldnt. Now, if youre doing it, and you have a firearm strapped to you youre inviting misery.
Every single warm-blooded mammal in this country steps outside the law. Whether its running a Stop sign or going faster than the posted speed limit if youre going to step outside the law, do it without a firearm.
2. Follow-Up: Bad Driving
Lets continue this point a bit further. We covered a story a little while back where a concealed carrier was driving like an idiot in Florida. I know, I know you can hardly believe it. A Floridian driving horribly. But suspending your disbelief just a moment, this driver happened to accrue ANOTHER vehicle following him for allegedly the purposes of getting his license plate number so he could phone it into police. That situation turned out about as bad as you can imagine it would. Concealed carriers dont like being followed. But going off point #3 and continuing it into this point: if youre going to drive like an idiot, do yourself a favor and leave your firearm out of it. That gun is not your automatic justification to do whatever you please.

That video shows that the shooter shot the guy in the stomach, not the back as he retreated. Almost looks like the shooter would have been attacked again if he didn’t shoot.
Video shows him getting shot then turning and going back into the store.
He looked like he was quite calmly talking to the woman. By the customers turning around perhaps the woman was screaming at the guy?
He was pointing at her. He was also known to do this before.
Once he pulled his forearm out, the boyfriend backed up. There was no reason to shoot him.
Concealed carry folks have a responsibility to avoid arguments. He intentionally confronted and argued with a woman and child. If I were that woman, I would have felt threatened by him. Her BF did what most would. Maybe her bf was handling the threat too?
He gives a very bad name to the 2nd amendment. I stand by hes a punk with a gun.
Forcibly and Physically attacked by another punk.
Thats where I disagree. The punk deserved to get shoved. He needs to mind his own business. I hope they yank his CC and pronto.
