Prominent Putin critic: If Trump turns me over, I'm dead (Bill Browder)
The Hill ^ | 07/19/18 | Aris Folley

Bill Browder, a prominent critic of Russian President Vladimir Putin, on Thursday said that if President Trump turns him over to the Russian government he will be handing him over to his death.

"To hand me over to Putin is basically to hand me over to my death," Browder said while appearing on CNN’s "At This Hour."

Putin mentioned Browder by name during a press conference with the president on Monday, where the Russian leader said that the Kremlin would permit special counsel Robert Mueller’s team to travel to Russia and question 12 Russian intelligence officers indicted in the Russia probe so long as Russia is allowed to interrogate some people “who have something to do with illegal actions in the territory of Russia.”

The Russian leader alleged without evidence that Browder, an American-born financier, illegally transferred $1.5 billion out of Russia and had funneled $400 million toward Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign. The Russian prosecutor’s office later corrected that figure to $400,000.

Browder, who also lobbied on behalf of the Magnitsky Act, which imposed sanctions against Russia, has since denied the allegations and contended on Thursday that he is "Putin's No. 1 foreign enemy."

"What the Russians have said very clearly on a number of occasions is they'd like to get me back to Russia ... and once I'm back in Russia, they would like to kill me. Anything that begins that process is effectively a death sentence for me," Browder said.

However, Browder said he doesn’t believe the US will go in on a “dirty deal” with Putin.

"The United States has very clear laws in relation to mutual legal assistance with Russia, in relation to extradition with Russia and various other things," he said.

"You have agencies that operate on those laws, and I don't think that there are going to be people who work in the apparatus of the law enforcement agencies of the United States that are going to be going along with a dirty deal with Putin."

The White House backed away from Putin's proposal on Thursday after initially indicating that Trump would consider the move.

“It is a proposal that was made in sincerity by President Putin, but President Trump disagrees with it," press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said in a statement. "Hopefully President Putin will have the 12 identified Russians come to the United States to prove their innocence or guilt."

The White House response came after almost 24 hours of criticism from Democrats, Republicans and former diplomats that added to the hailstorm of criticism Trump has received over his meeting with Putin in Helsinki earlier this week.

The Senate approved a resolution by a 98-0 vote warning the president not to let the Russian government question diplomats and other officials, shortly after the White House statement.

All these people give me the creeps. I didn’t believe him when he showed up on FOX several months ago, I don’t believe him now.

I think they are all a bunch of thieves.

Hi.

I heard a rumor that Browder renounced his citizenship, and is now a British subject.

How can Trump turn him over? He’s a British citizen. And he’s awfully public for being so “afraid”.

None is handing anyone over. Putin said we could observe while Russian prosecutors interview Russian citizen. In return they would like to question some Americans, and if it is done the same way, they would merely observe while American investigators interview Americans. Since this guy is British, I’m not sure how he fits into this in any case.

I watched this guy on TV and don’t like him. Maybe let the Russians interview him, turn him over, or throw him in jail. Protecting him beyond making sure his rights are observed would be wrong.

I am basing my comments on reading “Red Notice” by Browder.

He was very opportunistic, stepping in when Russia went Public with its business shares. And he made a LOT.

Russians/Oligarks came after him, and he got his (and investor’s) money out just in time. But his Russian lawyer died in custody.

Russians/Oligarks then took over his companies, which puzzled him because the were worthless by then.

Russians/Oligarks then claimed that those companies had paid too much tax, and got a lot (maybe billions) in ‘tax refunds’, which was essentially stolen from the Russian citizens.

Then he got Obama and Kerry to support the :

The Magnitsky Act, formally known as the Russia and Moldova Jackson–Vanik Repeal and Sergei Magnitsky Rule of Law Accountability Act of 2012, is a bipartisan bill passed by the U.S. Congress and signed by President Obama in December 2012, intending to punish Russian officials responsible for the death of Russian tax accountant Sergei Magnitsky in a Moscow prison in 2009.

And Putin responded by prohibiting US adoption of Russian kids.

But ... who do you believe???

Hey! Not a US citizen! Turn him over today!

https://www.cbsnews.com/media/5-citizens-who-left-the-us-to-avoid-paying-tax/3/

Why is he even here in the first place?! He renounced his citizenship to avoid US taxes.

In past years, Browder and Ziff Brothers Investments had given to the Clinton Global Initiative, a project of the Clinton Foundation, but the total was not more than $110,000, records show? In the 2016 election cycle, Ziff Brothers Investments gave $1.7 million. According to the Center for Responsive Politics, nearly two-thirds, or about $1.1 million, went to Democratic committees, and the rest to Republicans.

U.S. hedge funds investing heavily in Greek banks
(Reuters) - Hedge fund billionaire John Paulson’s Paulson & Co and a number of other U.S. hedge funds are investing aggressively into Greece’s struggling banking sector expecting it to turn a corner, the Financial Times reported on Sunday.

The FT said the interest from these funds had prompted big banks in the country to lobby the government to consider speeding up the reprivatization of the sector.

Paulson & Co could not be immediately reached for comment.

John Paulson told the Financial Times that his fund had substantial stakes in Piraeus Bank and Alpha Bank.

“(Both) are now very well capitalized and poised to recover (with) good management,” he was quoted as saying.

The Financial Times citing unnamed sources said that Baupost, Eaglevale (hillary’s son in law’s hedge fund) , Dromeus Capital, Falcon Edge, York Capital and Och-Ziff are among the other funds investing heavily in Greek banks.

..... It's amazing how everybody takes the Hollywood scripted version of how things would go down .....

.... It probably would be wise to point out that there are many ways to conduct an interview without physically sending somebody to a Russian Gulag for interrogation by torture specialists.

.... Heck .... It could be done by Phone/Video link or even registered couriered responses if they actually wanted ..... Sheeeeesh ...

Browder seems to be a real sleaze, and it seems just a matter of who's a bigger sleaze - him or Putin. The deeper I look into things, the more it appears that the world is run by self-interested scum who are unfettered by ethics and have deep, deep connections. The rest of us have our lives affected over and over by these people, and we most often are unaware - believing in such things as virtue, fairness, honesty, integrity, the sanctity of life, and our personal spiritual beliefs - all the while having so much less freedom and self-determinism than we think.

I'm not being cynical, or looking for conspiracy. It's just an honest observation based on disturbing facts.

It almost seems that Putin mentioned his name to get the US media (or the curious parts anyway) to start pulling at some new strings - who his connections were, both in and out of Russia.
