Michelle Lujan Grisham: Energetic and ‘all in’ (NM Dem Gov Candidate)
The Albuquerque Journal ^ | July 14, 2018 | Kent Walz

Posted on 07/18/2018 1:17:43 PM PDT by CedarDave

The 58-year-old Lujan Grisham, whose political star has been on the rise for nearly a decade, says that upbringing helps steer her actions and beliefs.

“I am socially liberal,” she says. “I believe in total equality. And I’m a fiscal conservative.”

She says the numbers “don’t work” for either single payer or Medicare, but she believes health care is a right and ... would like to set in motion a number of changes to reduce costs, increase access and make it more fair.

She is president of the Hispanic Caucus ... She has decried the separation of families and says the nation needs to address immigration, but she does not favor abolishing ICE. And unlike a lot of Democrats, "I’m willing to put real money into border security and increase the number of agents. I’d like to have operational security by 2020.

“I won’t join the progressive [Democratic] caucus because I think they have looked to minimize national security and productive, smart defense investments."

[to] those in the progressive wing who are openly hostile to the oil and gas industry, Lujan Grisham says, “They’ve lost their minds.” “We’re the third-largest oil producer in the country. I’m (as governor) going to get a benefit from that.” She’s also a strong supporter of renewables, but, she says, “I don’t believe everyone in oil and gas wants to pollute and kill the environment.

Companies are investing billions of dollars in the Permian basin and Lea and Eddy counties in southeast New Mexico are now thought to have oil reserves equal to Saudi Arabia. ... If New Mexico doesn’t tap the resource, “Texas will just take it.”

Oil and gas accounts for a big chunk of state revenue, and Lujan Grisham predicts New Mexico will need every dime the industry can generate.

Very long and detailed, and overall favorable story about her. A similar story on Pub candidate Steve Pearce will appear in this Sunday's ABQ Journal.

I had to heavily excerpt the article but what I got out of it is that she is a fighter for her beliefs and has crossed paths with both Dem and Rep governors (King, Johnson and Richardson) in her career in state government. Unlike Richardson who had national ambitions and only used his time in NM to further them, those are not immediately obvious with her. The story focuses more on societal issues and problems and not so much on what steps she would propose to help the economy and investment in the state.

If she wins the race for Governor, in my opinion, NM could do a whole lot worse given the crazy beliefs of the radical left-wing opposition to her in the primary. Of course the Dems are known for saying one thing to get elected then immediately changing course to their usual tax, spend and regulate stance. But if she wins and maintains what she says in the article NM may survive the change in party leadership at the top.

Nope, she is anti-gun and would lead us down the same path as Cali and NY.
She would be a rubber stamp for anything coming out of the roundhouse, higher taxes, sanctuary state, and more spending we can't afford now.
She will do nothing to bring in jobs to the state, and shoulder any of her initiatives on the back of taxpayers.

She is on record saying she would back an AR-15 ban in New Mexico. https://www.abqjournal.com/1151832/dem-gov-hopefuls-back-ar15-ban.html

Pearce better get off his duff.

New Mexico is such a weird state. I loved the climate and most of the people, but it was a mess as far as politics. Either way, Democrats never stay moderate. I hope economics drive people to the right, even if they are Richardson Republicans.

That's for damn sure. Lujan-Grisham has ads on every day on both over-the-air and cable channels. Have not seen many Pearce ads at all even though he has a considerable war chest.

However, I'm more worried about Pubs losing the 2nd District seat that Pearce gave up to run for Governor. It was lost in 2008 when he ran for Senate and lost in the Obama win that year and we got a Dem lib who joined the usual heavily left-wing Dem Congress that year. Pearce won it back in 2010 and now is trying again for statewide office in 2018.

Yvette Herrell won the Pub primary and is the conservative in the race and very supportive of the Second Amendment.

“New Mexico is such a weird state. I loved the climate and most of the people, but it was a mess as far as politics.”

Yep. I was born there, raised there, went to college there. But could not get a job in my degree field, so I left for greener pastures.

I haven’t looked back. I still visit, but I don’t look to try to move back. Still no jobs in my field, at least that pay enough to live in a decent life style. And, the state has gone entirely Leftist in the last two decades or so...
