WASHINGTON President Trump said on Tuesday that he had misspoken a day earlier in Helsinki, Finland, when he appeared to take the word of President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia over the conclusion of his own intelligence agencies on Russian election meddling in 2016. On Tuesday, Mr. Trump said he accepts those findings.
Mr. Trump said the misunderstanding arose from his use of a double negative.
The sentence should have been I dont see any reason why it wouldnt be Russia, sort of a double negative, he said. So you can put that in and I think that probably clarifies things pretty good by itself. I have on numerous occasions noted our intelligence findings that Russians attempted to interfere in our elections.
Mr. Trump had been criticized even by many in his own party for rejecting the assessments of American intelligence and law enforcement. In walking back those remarks on Tuesday, Mr. Trump said he reviewed the transcript from the joint news conference on Monday and he realized that there is a need for clarification.
Mr. Trump emerged from talks with Mr. Putin on Monday and publicly challenged the conclusion of his own intelligence agencies about Russias interference in the 2016 presidential election and said the Russian president was extremely strong and powerful in his denial. Mr. Trump also said that he saw no reason why Russia would have been behind the election hacking.
My people came to me, Dan Coats came to me and some others, they said they think its Russia, Mr. Trump said, referring to the director of national intelligence, Dan Coats. I have President Putin; he just said its not Russia. I will say this: I dont see any reason why it would be.

YES!!! Thank you!!!
I've been screaming at the TV and radio for days about this. Today I had an epiphany and I really think I have most of the answer to all of the "Russia" hype.
1) If what they're referring to is Russia "hacking" into the DNC/Hillary e-mails - it's not really meddling in the election it's basically spy vs spy stuff that has been going on for eternity.
The hacks would be an attempt to get dirt on the predicted victor in the election in order to be able to use it at a future date.
Thus the meddling would come in as the "insurance policy" (quotes are deliberate) to aid the predicted outcome.
In other words, WHY IS THE ASSUMPTION THAT THE RUSSIAN MEDDLING WAS SUCCESSFUL????!!!!!
Why couldn't it be that they did try to meddle and help HILLARY get elected? Trump won despite the attempt to help defeat him.
And how convenient now that Rosenstein says the results of the election were not affected by the meddling. Yeah - because Trump was elected in spite of it. Now if the truth comes out, they can say "no harm done, Trump won - can't we just move on and forget about all this".
It sickens me.
Instead, the hacking (or insider data theft) just educated voters about the ugly things that went on behind the curtains at the DNC.
Leftists have collectively lost their minds over a little voter education.
To who?
With the way the Intelligence Services, Democrat Party, Rino Republicans, or Main Stream News Media has behaved since President Trump was elected, were any of them to call me by name, I’d check my license to make sure I was me.
It's never a good idea to refrain from avoiding double negatives.
No offense, but Trump could declassify and humiliate Rosenstien and Muller as well as the democraps and there is not a damn thing either side could do be cause he is within his rights. Declassify all the crap due to lack of CIA and FBI transparency. No one could touch him without sparking an American incumbent slaughter this fall.
I don’t disagree with that.
I haven’t looked at it as much as you have, but it may be a good idea.
