Trump Now Says He Accepts U.S. Intelligence Reports on Russian Election Meddling
New York Times ^ | July 17, 2018 | Mark Landler and Maggie Haberman

Posted on 07/17/2018 2:49:05 PM PDT by reaganaut1

WASHINGTON — President Trump said on Tuesday that he had misspoken a day earlier in Helsinki, Finland, when he appeared to take the word of President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia over the conclusion of his own intelligence agencies on Russian election meddling in 2016. On Tuesday, Mr. Trump said he “accepts” those findings.

Mr. Trump said the misunderstanding arose from his use of a “double negative.”

“The sentence should have been ‘I don’t see any reason why it wouldn’t be Russia,’ sort of a double negative,” he said. “So you can put that in and I think that probably clarifies things pretty good by itself. I have on numerous occasions noted our intelligence findings that Russians attempted to interfere in our elections.”

Mr. Trump had been criticized even by many in his own party for rejecting the assessments of American intelligence and law enforcement. In walking back those remarks on Tuesday, Mr. Trump said he reviewed the transcript from the joint news conference on Monday and he “realized that there is a need for clarification.”

Mr. Trump emerged from talks with Mr. Putin on Monday and publicly challenged the conclusion of his own intelligence agencies about Russia’s interference in the 2016 presidential election and said the Russian president was “extremely strong and powerful in his denial.” Mr. Trump also said that he saw no reason why Russia would have been behind the election hacking.

“My people came to me, Dan Coats came to me and some others, they said they think it’s Russia,” Mr. Trump said, referring to the director of national intelligence, Dan Coats. “I have President Putin; he just said it’s not Russia. I will say this: I don’t see any reason why it would be.”

So—A non-stop temper tantrum by the media, DIMS, and RINO/Never Trumpers caused PDJT to re-consider his remarks.

Going forward, expect daily non-stop temper tantrums by the media, DIMS, and RINO/Never Trumpers.

Does anyone know what “evidence” there is that the Russians attempted to affect the outcome of the 2016 election?

Hacking the DNC Server, assuming they did it, doesn’t qualify as interfering in our election. It’s just old fashioned spying in the age of the Internet.

So what else do they have?

Anything?
Or Nothing.

Everybody vilifies Congress. People curse the presidents. The MSM slanders Trump 24/7.

American warriors, in the act of protecting the nation on the battlefield, are routinely slandered by the Left. Ditto policemen.

Obama, while president, could go overseas and, with his effeminate lisp, slander the nation and its entire history. Today he went overseas and slandered Trump.

But, the branch of government that throughout recorded history has been composed of people who are ruthless and work in secret — you better not say a word about them.

They are sacrosanct. Clapper, Brennan, Comey, Hayden, STRZOK, are sinless creatures. We must not even raise our gaze to meet theirs. We must only whisper around them. Comply. Submit.

Obviously, this sudden elevation of the intelligence services to near divinity is only a convenient ruse used by the Deep State to inoculate itself from any exposure.

I’m with you 100%.

We have been told that the Russians hacked the DNC Server.

That’s it. That’s all there is. But we have now been trained to believe that this hack is equivalent to “Interfering With Our Election”. What nonsense.

And worse, the Leftist goal is to morph the hack from simple spying to interference to collusion with the Russians.

Give me a break.

Just remember that reaganaut1 is still a #NeverTrumper after 2 years of Winning from President Trump.

As Nifster wrote to reaganut1:

I'll bet reaganut1 is still wearing the underwear it soiled the night President Trump curb-stomped Felonia von Pantsuit.

Trump is involved in the opening gambit in his negotiations with Putin. He is saying and doing certain things in order to control the process to get the specific responses from Putin that he wants. But it’s way to early to say who the overall winner or loser is. And Trump wants to get what he wants, while at the same time making Putin feel like he won, and making Putin enjoy the process, so that the relationship between the two improves.

The media has made it impossible for Trump to lend credence to the first issue without a tacit admission that the second is true as well.

I agree about the conflation and that meddling isn't collusion, but it's a cop out to blame the media.

If Trump was secure enough to say yes, Russia meddled but that doesn't make my election illegitimate he could have moved past this stuff long ago.

Until today he didn't seem able to do that.

That’s right. And over the last few days, they used it to try and keep Trump from conducting foreign policy with Putin.

Can someone, ANYONE tell me just what exactly this “Russian meddling’’ was, particularly? What exactly were they supposed to have done?
