Hundreds of protesters turned out again Monday, taking over the same block of 71st Street where police shot and killed a man in the South Shore neighborhood on Saturday.
The protests continued after police made the unprecedented decision to release body-camera video of the incident, less than 24 hours after it happened.
It's been two days since 37-year-old Harith Augustus was shot and killed during a confrontation with Chicago police officers. An independent investigation into the shooting is underway, but several groups say they don't trust it.
"I think that Mr. Augustus' constitutional rights were violated," said Maxwell Little, South Shore resident. "To weaponized somebody's blackness is against the law."
Chicago police released body camera video Sunday. Augustus was stopped by police who believed he had a gun.
"We're not trying to hide anything," said Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson. "We're not trying to fluff anything. The video speaks for itself."
While the footage appears to corroborate the police department's version of events, there is no audio to determine what led to the confrontation.
"We need to know who the officer was who actually did this and they need to be held accountable," said Maria Hernandez, Black Lives Matter.
Witnesses to the shooting shared another video of the aftermath, in which they saw three officers running from the shooting and getting into a police car. CPD would not confirm how those officers may or may not have been involved.

Ignorant subhuman savages gotta subhuman savage. Don’t confuse them with video proving them wrong.
There is a segment of society that is too far gone to live in a civilized America.
Yet possibly another enforcement of democrat gun law that went awry but this time they will blame racism and not democrat antigun violence
“The shooting brought up ongoing issues of distrust between the community and police.”
I’ll reiterate what I’ve said before: pull cops out of those neighborhoods. Tell those people “You distrust cops? Fine. Police yourselves”.
True
Note to self:
When you pull a gun in front of four cops, theres a good chance youre going to die.
That is the message black kids need to be told.
I doubt that is what they are hearing.
Does this person even know what that means? Sounds like the 21st Century version of 'NEWSPEAK'.
This is why police should be required to wear body cams - protects them, protects the citizenry. These protests over a justifiable shooting are revealed for what they are - a fraud.
By attempting to draw on officers who have already drawn and are wearing body armor and partially behind cover, you're going to be shot. A lot. It would take some extraordinary circumstances for you to live through that barrage you're triggering.
The solution? Expose the bull****. The linked news report treats stupidity as being somehow equal to facts. That news station is never above editorializing stories, the reporters and anchors should have openly stated that ‘deluded protesters’ ‘misrepresenting the facts of the incident’ and ‘attempting to turn a bad decision by one man into an example for others to follow.’
There should be universal condemnation of any station which attempts to give equal support to outlandish and frankly dangerous ideas.
As for your use of the word ‘murder’ - that speaks volumes to me. There's no question that lawful use of deadly force occurred here taking out one of the legs for the characterization of ‘murder’ - the UNLAWFUL killing of another human being.
There may be questions as to lawful searches, but all of that went out the window when he attempted to draw on officers. And his homicide is entirely upon his own choice of actions.
#ghettolottery
HOw many people would resist at least 2 officers, as the officers tried to hold your arm...the arm that has the hand that grabs the gun?
How many people would actually draw on cops?????!!!!
(hopefully, that number is shrinking daily)
Based on news reporting, concealed carry permits are issued, as the police pointed out that the victim DID NOT HAVE ONE, even tho he carried under his shirt in his waistband.
That is a lot of statistics for one city
It must make more sense to someone who’d loaded up on Colt .45.
Excellent post.
He was trying to pull a gun of cops. Justify that!
93% of blacks that are shot, are ahot by other blacks.
Where are the outraged blacks losing over 21 times their fellow black men and women by their own hands?
Thats what happens in Baltimore. They answer calls for service, but no longer do anything about crimes they witness in progress. Saw an article about that the other day.
Comply - Don't Die
See, I even rhymed it... I do care.
Is there a right to carry in the city of Chicago?
If there is then I agree with you, if not then he was carrying illegally, and he should just comply either way.
Well I’m not listening to protesters they’re moronic shit stirrers who to this day repeat “Hands up, don’t shoot”
I’m sure if this man had a right to carry we’ll find out.
