Newt Gingrich on Monday offered rare, scalding criticism of President Trump, demanding that the president explain the comments he made during his controversial press conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the conclusion of their talks in Helsinki.
"President Trump must clarify his statements in Helsinki on our intelligence system and Putin," the former House speaker wrote on Twitter. "It is the most serious mistake of his presidency and must be corrected—-immediately."
Trump received widespread scorn on Monday after he said at the media availability that he has yet to see any compelling reason why the Kremlin would have interfered in the 2016 election.
His comments follow special counsel Robert Mueller's indictment in federal court on Friday, which alleged 12 Russian military officials hacked Democratic email servers during the campaign.
Gingrich has been a vocal supporter of Trump, but he has on occasion provided constructive critiques of his performance.
Gingrich chastised Trump in April, claiming his administration had botched the release of Deputy Attorney Rod Rosenstein's memo outlining problems with fired FBI Director James Comey.
Even if you are right - which I doubt it - it’ll be forgotten within a week or two. You do remember the “grab them by the ...” caused his poll # to drop 6-8 points from him already being lower than HRC and he still won - losing pop vote by 2% vs the 14-16% after the Billy Bush video dropped.
Also, Putin’s stunning disclosure of rouge and corrupt American intelligence officials spiriting one and a half billion bucks of illicit funds out of Russia and diverting 400 million to the Clinton campaign or Clinton Foundation assets amounts to a serious declaration of war against corrupt elements of our government
If there is enough evidence of this transaction, it makes a lot of sense to have a proper understanding with Putin and the Russian government before acting because this one can’t just be walked back

I had the misfortune of dealing with Newt on a personal level back in the 90s. I had a back & forth at a GOP event that reached a point where he lunged at me & we had to be separated.
He did not like getting exposed for what he was.
To top it off....he tried to spit at me on his way out. The guy is total scum.
There's a difference between what is said at a public press conference and what is said behind closed doors.............

Actually.. Trump is right... You say the Russians hacked the server... You know what you need to actually prove that... The server! Just because a lot of people in the say something doesn’t make it true. The intelligence community says something and we just have to believe it? The problem people ultimately have with Trump is that he doesn’t back down. They just want him to agree with their conclusions without using his brain

Aside from my personal issues, he did next to nothing with that historic 1994 win in Congress.
