The US does have military bases on or near enough to the Mexican border to rapidly reinforce it if ordered. We have had a string of military assets positioned for this border's defense since well, starting about about 1845.

Texas, Fort Hood
Texas, Fort Bliss
Arizona, Fort Huachuca
California, Camp Pendleton

Lots of Air Force bases as well.
