Justine Greening: New Brexit referendum ‘is only way to end deadlock’
The Times (UK) ^ | 7/15/2018 | Staff

Theresa May’s hopes of winning support for her Brexit compromise have been dealt a huge blow as Justine Greening has become the first senior Conservative to support calls for a second referendum.

The prime minister’s effort to keep Britain in parts of the single market is the “worst of both worlds” and will satisfy no one, the former education secretary says in an article for The Times.

Something smells fishy to me. This is what the so-called "remainers" wanted right after the vote went against them and Brexit won. It seems wrong for the citizenry to vote again for something already settled by citizen vote. This feels like they are hoping the vote goes the other way in a second vote by the people. The "remainer's" have nothing to lose while the Brexiter's have everything to lose. As in their sovereignty. It's not my country but it sure sounds like bad politics going against the will of the people to this American.

No surprise.

Liberals want to keep counting/voting until they get the result they want.

There should be no second referendum. The people voted. Get out NOW!

Liberals want to keep counting/voting until they get the result they want.

That was my gut feeling too.

Liberals always want a redo when they lose. As many as it takes.

Typical left wing tactic. Keep having votes until you get the results you want, then declare the matter settled for all time.

Will the result be any more binding than the last vote? Only if Brexit is defeated. Facism respects no election.

That is how the Gay Marriage issue went in California a few years back. Judges began making laws vs making conclusions based on present laws.

Liberals always want a redo when they lose. As many as it takes.

Then when they win, it's "the people have spoken."

I say no on a Brexit vote, but maybe it is time for a no confidence vote against May and a new general election. I think the Tories and other Conservatives (UKIP) would not do worse in a new general election compared to a new Brexit referendum, and maybe Tories opposed to May and UKIP may get just enough to win (a coalition) and play a strong hand in replacing May. Maybe. Then again more informed minds than mine might think it would not work.

They want to follow the brilliant example of Ireland, who were badgered into re-voting on both the Treaty of Nice and the Treaty of Lisbon. And once they voted the “right” way, they didn’t get to vote again.

Anyone who has read the clauses in the Treaty of Lisbon on leaving the EU will see that it was set up to put the departing country at a big disadvantage. From Article 50:
  1. Any Member State may decide to withdraw from the Union in accordance with its own constitutional requirements.

  2. A Member State which decides to withdraw shall notify the European Council of its intention.

In the light of the guidelines provided by the European Council, the Union shall negotiate and conclude an agreement with that State, setting out the arrangements for its withdrawal, taking account of the framework for its future relationship with the Union. That agreement shall be negotiated in accordance with Article 218(3) of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union. It shall be concluded on behalf of the Union by the Council, acting by a qualified majority, after obtaining the consent of the European Parliament.

  3. The Treaties shall cease to apply to the State in question from the date of entry into force of the withdrawal agreement or, failing that, two years after the notification referred to in paragraph 2, unless the European Council, in agreement with the Member State concerned, unanimously decides to extend this period.

  4. For the purposes of paragraphs 2 and 3, the member of the European Council or of the Council representing the withdrawing Member State shall not participate in the discussions of the European Council or Council or in decisions concerning it.

A qualified majority shall be defined in accordance with Article 238(3)(b) of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union.

  5. If a State which has withdrawn from the Union asks to rejoin, its request shall be subject to the procedure referred to in Article 49.
The EU gets to dictate the relationship with any wayward member that wants to leave, in other words.

Well....here’s the thing. If the second BREXIT doesn’t got the right way....then there should be a third, and perhaps a fourth BREXIT vote.

First, the British Intelligence services must investigate whether Theresa May is a double agent who’s been working for the Europeans to destroy Brexit, the British economy, and the British government’s ability to function.

It’s impossible to believe that a mere women working alone without outside help could have made such a mess out of a simple referendum.

Theresa May’s first act of either monumental stupidity or treason was to call an election which resulted in the Conservative party losing its majority.

Afterwards, things deteriorated to the point where the party has become so divided nothing can be accomplished — including getting rid of Mrs. May so that maybe someone else can resolve the crisis.

The only reasonable action now is to hold another referendum, Brexit2, which would allow Britain to extricate itself from Brexit1.

Once Theresa May has been succeeded by another prime minister — if ever — the possibility of breaking away from Europe can again be contemplated.
