When Scarlett Johansson was selected to play a transgender role in a forthcoming film called Rub and Tug there was an immediate backlash. Today, Variety reports that Johansson has backed out of the role because of the controversy:
In light of recent ethical questions raised surrounding my casting as Dante Tex Gill, I have decided to respectfully withdraw my participation in the project, Johansson told Out Magazine, which first reported the news, in a statement. Our cultural understanding of transgender people continues to advance, and Ive learned a lot from the community since making my first statement about my casting and realize it was insensitive

Yeah, people are lining up in the millions to see movies about Degenerates.
So whats the problem now? I guess it was ok for the Crying Game, Hillary Swank, and countless others, but now some SJWs are complaining?
So what’s going on here? You have to be a “transsexual” or “transgender” person, personally, to play that part?
How many “transgender” actors/actresses are there in the first place?
I’ve heard that “straight” people have played the parts of “gay” people. And vice versa, and the activists don’t have a cow about that.
So what’s different about this situation?
If yes we should all at FR donated $0.01 as a contribution to the medical procedures to make a Hollywood Star a trans-gender so they can make this movie and get an Oscar.
How about Robert de Niro?
How about:
“I really am already transgendered.
“I am a transgendered female, for most of my life.
“I realized I was female before my teen years, and was supported by my parents and grandmother.
“I am a pioneer, that current culture does not even recognize.”
The whole cast of “Hamilton” is BLACK!!!!!!!
.
So Scarlett really didn’t have the testicles to fight for this role.
Well, there goes the funding for that flick.
Any advancement in our “cultural understanding of transgender people” means a giant step backwards in science and psychology. If a person wants to be an abnormal freak, that’s their business. It is no advancement, however.
Does this mean the queer in The Big Bang Theory who plays a straight guy must quit?
Trannies want to play female roles.
Talk about box office poison!
A woman is not allowed to portray a woman who pretends to be a man. Is a man allowed to play the part since trans men are supposed to be the same as men?
Rock Hudson was a good actor. He played lots of straight man roles in the pictures.
First time that the term “pulls out” and the name “Scarlett Johanson” were ever mentioned together.
Ive heard that straight people have played the parts of gay people. And vice versa, and the activists dont have a cow about that.
So whats different about this situation?
There were some complaints about Michael Douglas and Matt Damon playing gay roles in a Liberace show, and about the two leads in Call Me By Your Name not being known to be homosexual.
But there are so many gay roles and gay actors that those controversies don't get much traction.
There are fewer trans dramas and performers, so when something happens it becomes more of a thing.
If Hollywood had more Asian actors and roles maybe it wouldn't be such a controversy when ScarJo or Emma Stone gets a role written for an Asian.
Some of the controversies are just funny though -- obvious attempts to get attention by the people who start them.
I guess that's why Victor/Victoria is never on cable these days.
