Subject:* *Travel Pool #6 — delayed.*
Per the WH schedule, POTUS and FLOTUS were set to depart the Hilton Helsinki Kalastajatorppa, en route to the Presidential Palace, at 12:40 p.m.
Pool is still holding at the Hilton at 1 p.m. Per news reports, the hold up appears to be on Putin’s end — he has just this moment landed inHelsinki.
No response for press secretary Sarah Sanders when we asked her about those reports, or the delay.
We’ll keep you posted on delays or movements.

Subject:* *Travel Pool Report #7*
The notoriously late Russian President Vladimir Putin kept POTUS cooling his heels in his guest house for close to an hourpast his planned departure time. Putin was wheels down in Helsinki just after 1 p.m. — the official greeting at the Presidential Palace had been scheduled for 1:10 p.m.
Motorcade is now rolling to Presidential Palace at 1:37 p.m.
Good morning, Jane.
Too fast of a trip and visit but glad to spend a bit of time with GGD, very sweet baby.
Her big sister, who turned 1 in March, sure loves her, not a bit jealous.
Really missed all of you,I will have to go back and read articles and watch videos, tried to keep up with posts but didn’t have much time.
And there sure was a boatload of info posted.

Motorcade arrived at palace at TIME.
En route, we passed a billboard that said”Mr. President, welcome to the land of free press,” which had been posted in advance of the summitby the largestnewspaper in Finland (project explained here:>https://twitter.com/KaiusNiemi/status/1018437056698175489<).
Streets were not jammed at first as motorcade passed by —fairly deserted feel to the drive, until we got closer to the market square, where thousands filled the sidewalks and stared out of restaurant and cafe windows. Notably few signs — positive or negative — that we have grown accustomed to seeing on other legs of this trip. We saw a few American flags, one “peace” flag, A few people lifted two hands in the air to give the motorcade two middle fingers. One side read”Free press banned in Russia. Banned in the US?” Another: “God Bless You, President Trump and Putin.” One little kid held a “MAGA” sign.
But other than that, and a few I surely missed,justphones held in the air tofilm the drive.
We arrived at the palace at 1:57 p.m.

The set up Two ornate blonde wood chairs with blue cushions, with a white flower arrangement on a small table in between (see pic).
Six flags three American, three Russian.
Russian and American press are separated by a small barrier. Each country has 20 people in room, including security staff and press.
Bill Shine and Stephen Miller were standing in the lobby as we walked up to second floor to the Gothic Hall where the one on one meeting between Putin and Trump is happening.
Bolton and Sanders are standing in the room with us now, in front of the Russian press pen.

Trump and putin are currently participating in their one-one on meeting with only translators in the room. Pool was escorted out at 2:14 pm. Both world leaders made brief remarks at top of meeting. There was not one mention of election meddling in Trumps list of topics up for discussion. He ignored shouted questions about the topic.

Subject:**Travel Pool #10*
Trump and Putin entered the Gothic Hall in the presidential palace at 2:10 p.m. for their one-on-one meeting — it had originally been scheduled to start at 1:20 p.m.
Putin entered the room first, Trump second, from the same door to stage right. The two men then stood for a moment to pose for photos, before taking their seats. Both were stone-faced, with arms hanging at their sides, while standing. They did not shake hands at the top of the meeting — only very quickly at the end.
Putin took his seat first, then Trump.
The body language was more relaxed once they sat down — Trump tented his hands in front of him and smiled at Putin, who seemed to slouch and grip the left arm of his chair through the entire pool spray. Trump had a female translator sitting to his right; Putin had a male translator sitting to his right.
Putin spoke first, then Trump.
While Trump spoke, Putin reacted before the translation — clearly listening to Trump speak in English and understanding what he said. He acknowledged the congratulations he received about the World Cup, and nodded again when Trump spoke about their countries holding 90 percent of the world’s nuclear missiles — and that not being a good thing.
We could not hear Putin’s translator. I will send that feed I get it from someone else. Below is my very rough transcript of Trump’s remarks. Please check against official transcript. And note: he ignored shouting questions on election meddling. AP’s Jonathan Lemire notes that Putin appeared to smirk when he heard reporters shout out those questions.
TRUMP remarks ahead of one-on-one meeting with PUTIN: First of all, Mr. President, Id like to congratulate you on a really great World Cup — one of the best ever.and also your team itself for doing so well.
In the United States we call it soccer, and I watched quite a bit of it, and I watched the entire final and the semi-final...congratulations on it.
Most importantly we have a lot of good things to talk about, and things to talk about. We have discussions on... trade to military to missiles to nuclear to China.” [Inaudible but a mention of] “our mutual friend, President Xi.”

Subject:**Travel Pool #11 — Bilat participants*
Since the one-on-one meeting between Trump and Putin started, pool has been holding in a non-air-conditioned, steamy conference room in the presidential palace on the first floor. (On the menu for lunch: hot soup.)We haveaview of lots of people walking right by the palace on the opposite side of this narrow street.
At 3:16 p.m.,we aregathering to goup to thepool spray at thetop of the lunch (which is the extended bilat meeting).
Attending the bilat with POTUS, her WH official:
* Huntsman
* Pompeo
* Kelly
* Bolton
* Fiona Hill
* Marina Gross, interpreter

We were walked through the kitchen, where chefs appeared to be preparing lunch for the bilat. Now holding in a patio.
Subject:* *Travel pool report 12a*
Update: while holding in the courtyard, a Finnish press official told the pool that the 1:1 meeting between Trump and Putin is still ongoing, which means it is pushing 2 hours.
*Subject:* *Travel pool #12*
At 4 pm, we were herded into a coat check area to clear the way for the exit of the President of Finland.
He had been here to welcome the two visiting leaders he welcomed Putin first, earlier today, and then Trump when he arrived.
Now that hes gone, were back on the patio awaiting lunch to start.
WH said it might later let us know how long the one-on-one lasted its unclear right now, from here, if were still waiting because its still going on, or for some other reason.
Subject:* *Very good start*
Trump responded to shouted question of how was the meeting. Very good start, he said. We were ushered out at 4:29 pm after one minute in room. Pic attached.
Subject:* *Travel pool #13b*
We were lead into the Hall of Mirrors, a room adjoining the Gothic Hall where the one-on-one took place, at 4:28 p.m., and then ushered out one minute later.
The Russian and American delegations were seated across the table — dressed with a white table cloth, wine glasses, and china — and sitting in complete silence when we entered. Putin sat directly across from Trump. Trump was flanked by Pompeo and his translator. Full list of Russian delegation TK, but we spotted foreign ministerSergei Lavrov.
Trump responded to one shouted question, per previous pool report.
WH spokesman Hogan Gidley would not confirm reports that the Trump-Putin one-on-one meeting lasted 2 hours and ten minutes, per the Russians.

Fuller Trump quote from lunch, in response to shouted question:”I think it’s a good start. Very, very good start for everybody.
