Good morning from the Hilton Kalastajatorppa in Helsinki, where the sun has already been shining for 5 hours (sunrise was at 4:26 a.m.) and the temperature is a pleasant-ish 80 degrees but rising.

First stop for POTUS and FLOTUS today is the Mntyniemi Residence, for an official greeting by the President of Finland, Sauli Niinist, and the First Lady of Finland, Jenni Haukio, followed by a breakfast. (Above are the correct umlauts for spellings, in case they drop out of future pool reports).

In the lobby of our hotel, ahead of departure, pool spotted chief of staff John Kelly, who gave a thumbs up to us (or at least in our direction) as we walked by; Ambassador John Huntsman, talking to someone we did not recognize; communications director Bill Shine walking with his suitcase; and social media director Dan Scavino walking around (note: the president has already tweeted three times this morning, twice about the “Rigged Witch Hunt”).

POTUS and FLOTUS spent last night at a guest house next to the staff/press hotel. The guest house looks like a three-story bare, white brick building — not particularly lavish looking — but it is set back from the road, so hard to see.

Motorcade is rolling at 9:36 a.m.

After arriving at the residence, POTUS and FLOTUS were given what seemed like shorttour of the grounds, by Niinisto and the First Lady of Finland.

They stood outside for a brief pool spray, just out of earshot. Niinisto was pointing andappeared to be telling Trump about the property — lush green grounds, overlooking the water. FLOTUS and Jenni Haukio spoke to each other separately.

FLOTUS was dressed in a yellow, long-sleeve, belted jacket.POTUS was wearing his signaturered tie.

After a few minutes of checking out the view, they went inside for the breakfast.

POTUS was seated at the table across from Niinisto when pool was escorted in. Sitting on the American side of the long rectangular table, across from Finland’s delegation: Russia expertFiona Hill, SecState Mike Pompeo, Trump, U.S. ambassador to Finland RobertPence, National Security Adviser John Bolton, and a person at the end of the table we did not recognize. Here are Trump’s remarks at the top of the breakfast, speaking to Niinisto:

“We really appreciate Finland, very highly respect your country.I enjoyed being with you a couple of days ago. NATO has, I think, never been stronger. It was a little bit tough at the beginning, but it turned out to be love. I appreciated your support.”

Shouted questions portion:

What is your message to Putin? Well see him a little while....Well be just fine.

On why he picked Helsinki for the summit: We think Finlands a great country. We had a fantastic meeting a few days ago, some of you were there, it was a very successful meeting. NATO has never been more together. People are now agreeing to pay. We were having a lot of problems with a lot people not paying, as the president will tell you...Theyre paying more rapidly. And its probably never been stronger than it is today. We had a fantastic meeting and now were capping it with being in Finland. And the hospitality has been fantastic.”

POTUS ignored shouted question, “will you tell president putin that election meddling is a red line?”

Potus is going back to his guest house.

Were headed back to the hotel where we started the day.

Motorcade ended at the guest house at 10:53 am. The back road we took weaves through a quiet residential neighborhood, so there were only a few scattered onlookers (no signs), including a few runners who stopped for a moment to watch the motorcade pass.

We are now back at the hotel holding.
