WASHINGTON -- Austin, Texas, will be the location for the headquarters of the new U.S. Army Futures Command, Army Secretary Mark T. Esper announced today at a Pentagon news conference.
Army Undersecretary Ryan D. McCarthy then explained the details. He said the process started with 150 metropolitan areas, narrowed down to five. Besides Austin, officials considered Boston; Minneapolis-St. Paul; Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina; and Philadelphia

Still being run by Obama plants, I see.
Hopefully Trump has this reviewed by American Nationalists.
Stupid, stupid move. They better get used to packing a lunch. They’ll be run out of the restaurants.
Bases in San Antonio still have significant capacity to host a major command HQ. This doesn’t smell right.
Why not San Fran - key west - Berkeley- or some other bastion of anti American activity?
Absolutely stupid. They must as well move to San Fagsicko.
Isn’t the Presidio still available?
They closed it because faggots were all around...I think
I thought this was a joke. Sad to say it is not.
I welcome the Army’s New HQ to the great state of Texas, but if they’re going to locate it in Austin, I suggest they refrain from hiring out of the local labor pool.
It needs chlorinating something fierce.
Fort Hood is about an hour from Austin (70 miles). Plenty of room out there for testing/training in a secure environment.
When I was at Fort Bliss, new weapons were tested at various sites in New Mexico, beyond McGregor Range. Some were a 60 minute drive each way (Orogrande NM).
Gov. Abbott, the University of Texas and local business leaders have worked hard on getting the Futures Command Headquarters in Austin.
Hood would be a good place for it.
“Hood would be a good place for it.”
The University of Texas is providing the office space in Austin.
I don’t imagine the Board of Regents wanted to provide that space up in Killeen.
Not everything Abbott does is golden. While he was the best option we had (and has been several whole flights of stairs up over Islamist Rick Perry) he still is a big cement obstacle in the way of bringing civil forfeiture reform to Texas.
This is one of those not golden moves.
The University is a big player in this, and it is in Austin.
Not that many will be stationed there but every one will offset those freaky uber liberal treehugging enviro illegal lovin’ freaks who want to keep Austin weird.
Irrelevant in every significant way.
Important military facilities need to be located as far away from population centers as possible.
Not only is Austin a stupid place for something like this, it is irresponsible of Abbott not to oppose vocally.
Placing it in Texas makes sense. But in a remote military area.
The University is a big player in this, and it is in Austin.
Like someone recently told me, university of Texas is the south’s Harvard. Sure am glad my grands aren’t going there. Granddaughter spent a semester at UT Arlington and she couldn’t wait to get away. She felt like a bastard at a family reunion.
Austin has been home to the Camp Mabry Joint Force Headquarters since 1892. I’ve not heard of any problems.
