Treason does not apply here, per the definition of treason. As a caller to Ken Matthews say, its sedition.

Treason - the crime of betraying one's country, especially by attempting to kill the sovereign or overthrow the government.

Sedition - conduct or speech inciting people to rebel against the authority of a state or monarch.

To me, treason seems to be more the crime this prick committed, since he was engaging in removing a President by means beyond the legal methods. I do not remember hearing him make public calls to incite anyone to perform that task. But then I'm sure the caller to Ken Matthews knows more than I.
