THE crisis in Ukraine has alarmed the rest of Europenot just because of the prospect of war, or chaos on its borders, but because a row with Russia over Ukraine's unpaid gas bill threatens energy security in the rest of the continent. Europe could survive a short interruption of a few weeks to the pipelines across Ukraine, assuming that other Russian gas kept flowing. The European Union has built in more resilience since the last upset in Ukraine, in 2009. Now it is hurrying to reduce its reliance further. But measures such as better storage, more interconnectors and diversification of supply will take several years. In the long term Europe could import more liquefied natural gas as new supplies come on stream, chiefly from America. (snip)

The EU needs to worry about migrant invaders, communism, lack of defense spending, and a de-genderization that is depopulating it more than Russian gas imports.
Meanwhile, Russia has gone to war in syria to prevent the construction of a cheaper pipeline from the Gulf across Syria and the med to land un Europe.
You forgot to mention the Russians were invited into Syria by the government...unlike the United States and their jihadist allies.
actually you are wrong
from the beginning we were associated with the Kurds and Sunnis in both Iraq and Syria.
Obama backed out and thus allowed the radicals to enter and prevail until routed.
Many Freepers can’t see that there are actual good guys involved and that not all Muslims are bad

The released 2012 DIA assessment suggests otherwise, and former DIA director Flynn confirmed, the Obama administration didn't 'back out', they supported the Gulf dictatorships bid to use jihadists to oust Assad. It created a giant war that cost hundreds of thousands of lives and created millions of refugees and failed to oust Assad. Give Obama his due!
It was after the assesment you mentioned thatObama turned his back on the Syrian patriots and the others in the coalition and jst backed out.
There s no defending Obama. He is a villian
Just wait till Germany has a harsh winter and russia decides to do something; how loud do you think the Germans will protest if they risk having their supplies of natural gas cut off?
“The EU needs to worry about migrant invaders, communism, lack of defense spending, and a de-genderization that is depopulating it more than Russian gas imports.”
What’s happened is that as the Left took over, the coal and nuke plants have been shut down. Sure they ‘said’ renewables would replace all that power...but they knew full-well that it can only replace a small portion. So now Europe is loading up with ‘back-up’ natural gas power plants, which will slowly become full-time operations, as the luster of renewables quickly wears off (i.e., one can only get so much solar power in Germany, or England, particularly in winter, when there’s virtually none).
So, quietly the building binge continues for natural gas plants - but now they need the gas, and Russia has tons of it, and it’s cheap...so that’s where we are.
As to Germany being controlled by Russia - that’s probably better for their future than being controlled by Merkel, so hard to see a downside.
I’m not wrong.
The Kurds have no authority to invite in foreign powers into Syria.
They’re good fighters but don’t understand geopolitics or their role on the global chess board.
Besides which they’re communist.
Syria is no longer Syria. The British/French disrtibution of 1918 is cancelled.
The Syrian patriots, or moderate rebels or whatever you wan to call them were a stalking horse for the jihadists.
The effort ultimately failed because Russia intervened and the US doesnt want to start WW3 just to replace the Syrian dictator (wisely!)
Drivel..... total drivel
That is FRee Republic dogma but is incorrect
Concurring bump...and now that the Syrian government is taking back territory in the south they're finding stockpiles of brand new US, French and even Israeli weapons. I'm talking tanks, TOW missile launchers, and tons of munitions.
American TOW launchers
French APILAS anti-tank weapons
