At Kohl’s last year watched a guy bring an empty Kohl’s bag, fill it up from the racks, then go to customer service for a refund (said he lost his receipt). Told the clerk about they said something like “yeah we know - he does this often”. They are trained to avoid confrontations and let the wheels of justice grind slowly off in the distance.
A good lawyer would never take the case because Mr. Couch is likely an "employee at will," which means that Academy Sports has the legal right to fire him at any time for any reason or no reason at all, provided he is not terminated because of his race, ethnicity, religion, age, gender, or in some states, sexual identity.
Yup, been there. This is what keeps the indirects busy.
When I worked at Lowe's, when they wanted to fire a person they reviewed the in store camera footage (going back many months) looking for that person committing a safety violation to use as a pretense for firing them.
Dooshes!
The store owner chose poorly...poor will be an operative word.
Corporate Amerika. Full of SJ lawyers and HR nazis.
Dunno about stuff like that. Ask your local HS coach- he buys from distributors too.
There are all sorts of online sources for team sports stuff, have not been into that stuff for decades.
I thought we were talking about firearms.
Yup - fire at will policies dont exist in companies covered by union contracts. An employer can still fire an employee but only for cause and one has grievance and appeal rights.
The lesson here for is never try to be a hero and let the employer deal with the fallout. Follow company protocol.
It may be dumb or seem counterintuitive but they have reasons for doing things in a particular way.
Deal with it.
Steal guns from stores with stupid policies is the lesson here.
The employee did the right thing. Imagine if the thief had run out of the store with a weapon and killed a bunch of children at a bus stop?
Everything is back asswards!
There, fixed it.
Hey, occupying a seat without ordering anything is considered a customer. Just ask Starbucks. Remember, the customer is always right.
The manager is a hero for stopping that thug from killing an untold number of people. The thug had already stolen two other guns from a pawn shop that day. Who knows how many other stolen weapons he had stocked up. Stolen guns, ammo and a backpack sounds like he had definite plans and it wasn't scones and tea. Is he a muzzy?
No. We don't. What we need, are fewer laws and fewer lawyers. It should be up to the customers to decide if they wish to continue doing business there. Let the business live or die by its decisions.
Just added Academy Sports to my now 68 pages of banned companies. Made a new category just for them - General Stupidity.
Yes, 68 pages. Have been able to avoid all but 2 companies (AT&T and Walmart) so not bad.
Well, anyway.
If you need a baseball glove right away, borrow one. If you want in two days, order it online. Or, forget about a boycott and go buy the silly thing. Corporate operations don’t care about our politics.
I never heard of an “I need a replacement baseball glove” emergency, but that’s just me.
Emergency replacement of a broken firing pin or bolt cam pin, sure, but then everyone who knows better has a few spares.
Sorry for your dilemma.
Well then, it seems they get to pat themselves on the back for strictly enforcing their ‘laws’.... while I bet you their profits are going to take a dip.
Fire a guy who risked his life to stop someone threatening violence and stealing a firearm? Well, I won’t be buying from a business like that. He deserved a medal.
