A resident of Boonville, Missouri, became a hero this week when he detained a convenience store robber at gunpoint until police arrived. What makes this story interesting is that our Good Samaritan, Jim Hayes, didnt have his gun on him while he was in the store. Nor was it in his car. In fact, the gun was in his home when the stick-up happened.
According to a witness, the robber (Elijah Carter, pictured above) took a knife and hammer from the counter and demanded the cash in the register. Thats when Hayes walked out of the store, got behind the wheel, drove home, got his gun, got back in his car, and returned to the store in time to stop the robbery attempt.
When the police arrived, they found Carter detained at gunpoint.
There were four other people, women, in the store, Jim said to reporters. I figured I got a minute or two to get home and get back and get my gun before he would be able to do anything.
Jennifer Surrat, whose daughter was working at the store, commented: We are so glad that someone took the time to pay attention and decided to return and help our daughter out. She was very scared. So thank you once again to the citizen and the BPD for their help getting this taken care of quickly.
I guess anybody in my position would have done the same thing. I didnt do anything special, Jim added. Im just glad I could be there to help and that nobody got hurt.
So are we, and were very glad Hayes had the luxury of time to execute a defensive gun use without the gun being immediately accessible.
Carter is now detained at the Cooper County Detention Center with a $150,000 bail and is being charged with first-degree robbery, armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon-exhibiting, and receiving stolen property.
You’re a funny guy, there’s no way you’re serious.
The police station is only two blocks away. I would have gone there and let them handle it.
What the heck is tattooed on his forehead?
I’m guessing it’s not MAGA.
When seconds count...
You have an unarmed man robbing a store.
It’d look just like him.
What the heck is tattooed on his forehead?
Huh? Is the Convenience Store selling Knifes and Hammers and displaying them on the Counter?
All your scenarios depend on two things, Witnesses and Video.
Without Witnesses and Video, you have more options.
Just sayin’...
And the msm will ignore it.
Wow his mom must be proud...I mean when I saw the picture, I had a feeling he was the criminal. Nobody who is employed would have hair like that...
Anything can be used as a weapon, suspect does not have to use a gun in order for your to defend yourself with one.
The man was armed, armed with an Assault Hammer.
Always shoot to kill, dead men tell no tales. If you shoot to wound, you are inviting a lawsuit.
If he’s dead, he cannot sue.
“If hes dead, he cannot sue.”

But his family can-—remember Michael Brown and his green haired mother.

“When seconds count, the police are only minutes away. Me, you go left out of the parking lot, down to that first red light, turn left again, pass the old Haney place, you know, where that cow got loose a couple years back and all the TV people came, then up and down that hill, and I’m on the right. So, hmm, yeah I probably got time. Hey, black John 3:16 guy, hang loose for a couple of minutes, ok?”
Dumbass
I carry just about everywhere I go. I’m not looking to shoot someone. The scenario I feel comfortable with would be where an armed guy comes into a place and starts shooting.
My question is this. This guy comes back into the store and basically holds the guy until police arrive. I’d start shooting if this guy made one move at me...and I’d shoot to kill.
I’m with you there. The way I figure, if I fail to stop a threat, there’s more at risk than just myself. I take more risks when it’s just me, but when others are involved, I do anything in my power to ensure their well being. It’s what Jesus would do.
Preferably just when the guy is reloading....
