Americans in the UK have been warned to “keep a low profile” during this week’s visit of their president, Donald Trump, as the US embassy in London says demonstrations against the event could turn violent.
On Tuesday, officials said the demonstrations would probably be focused on the centre of the UK capital, despite the fact that Trump is spending only a short time there, but added others had also been planned over the three days from Wednesday.
“Be aware of your surroundings [and] exercise caution if unexpectedly in the vicinity of large gatherings that may become violent,” the US embassy warned.
The warning comes after it emerged that the UK police mobilisation for Trump’s visit would be the largest since the 2011 English riots.
Officers will be moved around the country to protect the US president, with those in regions Trump is not visiting giving assistance to the services in those he is. Its scale is such that some police chiefs have expressed concerns they will not have enough resources for their usual local policing duties.
“With the hot weather, if anything kicks off, we are struggling. They cut the officers in the urban areas [biggest forces] and now they need them,” one told the Guardian on Monday. Firearms officers, armed counter-terrorism units, public order officers and dog handlers are all part of the deployment.
In their warning on Tuesday, the embassy told American citizens to expect the largest demonstration in central London on Friday 13 July, when organisers hope tens of thousands of people will be on the streets. A “Trump baby” balloon is also due to fly over central London that morning.

Why should they be so offensive about the President of the Unites States? That just fries me that they are announcing this balloon and a big anti-Trump demonstration. Do we do this when foreign officials come to America? COME ON!
Unfortunately some Americans are there to lead the demonstrations, kinda like slick willie did.
You may or may not remember all of the "spontaneous" demonstrations in England about nuclear freeze, GLCM and the Pershing II.
The demonstrations were so "spontaneouse" they had all the same tactics and signage not only in Lakenheath and other parts of England but also throughout europe.
Obviously there is nothing coincidental or spontaneous about this. They are well coordinated rent-a-mobs and in the case of London, well stocked with muzzies.
The Brits may need to remember we spanked them hard last time.
The Brits are always talking about a ‘’special relationship’’ between our two countries and for the life of me I’ve no f’ing idea what they’re talking about. We had to chase them out of here by gunpoint in 1776 to make this country a reality. We had to do it again in 1812. In 1917 they were begging us to come bail them out and they were howling to high Heaven in 1942 to bail them out yet again. What did they ever do for us?
