Justice Anthony Kennedy’s retirement from the Supreme Court, and President Trump’s nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to replace him, is the doomsday scenario liberals feared when Senate Republicans thwarted the appointment of Merrick Garland in 2016: The GOP’s brazen act of democratic sabotage will almost certainly deliver the high court to the far right for a generation. In the years ahead, the court will probably further erode reproductive rights, gay rights and voting rights, ushering in the darkest era in American history since the post-Reconstruction period.
Sounds hysterical, right? After all, Democrats will get their chance at reversing the court’s majority when they get back in power, as early as 2021. Except court appointments don’t work like elections. The remaining conservatives on the court are young — Clarence Thomas is the oldest at 70 — and Trump is insistent on naming young justices. It is possible that a two-term Democratic president could serve from 2021 to 2029 without being able to replace a single Republican-appointed justice.
That grim reality is leading many on the left to contemplate radical ideas, including an idea considered and discarded 80 years ago: court-packing. The idea of court-packing — adding extra justices to the Supreme Court in order to change its ideological makeup — causes most Americans to blanch. But if done right, it would actually offer a crucial avenue for safeguarding American democracy.

If Pres. Trump wants to preserve his conservative Supreme Court for many generations then he needs to lead the states to repeal the ill-conceived 17th Amendment.
Otherwise, regardless if RvW is eventually overturned, over time abortion is going to be legalized again as a consequence of loose cannon 17th imo.
President Donald Trump should cite this article, and create a grand total of 51 SCOTUS justices.... and he should then submit 42 new SCOTUS candidates.

This is a false premise...UNLESS everyone who states it believes: 1) Thomas will not retire in the next year before the year (Merrick Garland rule) Trump runs for reelection and Trump will win re-election and Thomas will retire in the first 3 years of Trump's 2nd term and the Dems never win back the senate or the WH in 8 years.

By court packing the idea is the Dems would expand the number of Justices on the USSC to a number greater than 9. There is no law covering the number of Justices which can be seated.
That is the biggest dilemma for the DEmwits. The only thing that they have that resembles direction is opposition to absolutely anything that President Trump does. This is getting tiring to anyone who has any sense at all. Opposing everything is not a winning strategy in an election, especially when over 90% of Republicans now support the president along with approximately 60% of independents. The Demwits and the media have created an echo chamber for themselves that is tiresome for everyone else and is actually beginning to cause some of their own to become disenchanted.
