Amul Thapar, the first Indian American federal court jurist, met July 2 with President Donald Trump, who is interviewing potential nominees to fill the seat vacated by retiring Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy.
Thapar, who currently serves on the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals and holds the distinction of being Trump’s first judicial appointee, was one of four possible candidates interviewed by the president. The Washington Post first broke the names of the other potential nominees, including federal appeals judges Raymond Kethledge, Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett. The White House has said Trump intends to interview two more candidates before making an announcement July 9.
Despite pushback from organizations who described Thapar as “ultraconservative,” the jurist sailed through his Senate confirmation hearing last year, which much support from Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Kentucky, and was duly appointed to the Sixth Circuit.
Sundeep Sandhu, newly-elected president of the South Asian Bar Association North Americas, told India-West that Thapar has been a long-time supporter of the organization. “We are incredibly proud of him. He is a highly-experienced, learned judge, and well respected in his profession.
NASABA honored Thapar with its “Pioneer” award in 2010.
The National Asian Pacific American Bar Association, which awarded Thapar its Trailblazer Award in 2015, also lauded the judge in a statement emailed to India-West.

My thinking exactly. The Dems strategy of dividing us by race, religion, whatever is going to bite them big time if Trump chooses the son of two immigrants from India.
Thomas and Alito should retire before the end of President Trump’s first term for the long term Conservative health of the court.

Please be advised that going to the mat for Thomas in 91’ was important but it gave us 25 years of Boxer & Finstein. Year of the woman and all that crap.
I didn’t find any influential Second Amendment rights opinions from Amul Thapar on record.

Amul Thapar is Catholic, not that it matters. All of the other likely picks are also Catholic except maybe for Kethledge. The push for the woman is because she’s a woman, a wildcard and the least likely to be confirmed due to odd reasons given for informal opinions.
But can he fix the swishy machine?

Don’t know about Jeff. I’ll see if I can find out. But Taylor sez Obama and a bunch of bigshots, from both parties, will go to the slammer. I don’t look for much to happen until after the mid-terms.
