Everyone wants to bring up Venezuela but not Denmark, Norway or the other relatively successful socialistic states around the world.
They have toilet paper and a standard of living equal to the US.
We need a more nuanced argument than 'socialism bad'.

Communism in theory is beautiful and kind. The only problem with communism is it ignores human nature. When the motive to work for personal gain is removed one ceases to work. When all powers are gathered centrally in the name of social justice, tyranny always follows and then hunger, strife, civil war and the death of millions.

These socialists typically never ran a successful business. Most of them never worked a day in the private sector.
They never made any moves to spread the wealth.
They took from the rich, the middle class and the poor and gave to themselves.

This is what drives me nuts - for over 50 years, we were told that Cuba turned into a sh!thole because the US would have nothing to do with it: no trade, no diplomatic relations, no social interactions, no nothing. And now we’re told the reason Venezuela has turned into a sh!thole is US interference.
If we have anything at all to do with a socialist/communist country, it’s our fault when it fails; if we have absolutely nothing to do with a socialist/communist country, it’s our fault when it fails. Go figure.

At this point in time, you have to be a mental defect to believe socialism will work. And most of these people are not mentally defective. What they are, is what every progressive is. Disingenous. They all know this fails. They all want to be that autocrat.

Whenever supporters of socialism are confronted by the fact that it's never worked, and usually resulted in the deaths of hundreds of millions of people in the 20th century alone, their response is always that "the right person hasn't been in charge to implement it properly." Invariably, the person speaking is speaking of himself. The hubris of leftists is truly breathtaking. They can't come to terms with the fact that their ideas and theories are at fault, the reason being that they're a good person, and only want the best for others, so the policies must be good as well. And THEY can finally make it all work.
There are societies where communism is practiced with fantastic success. The only issue is that not a single one involves humans. Ants, bees, and termites have what could be the ultimate communist societies, where the collective is supreme, and all work together towards the success of the collective, are provided with what they need to survive, and therefore all succeed. The only problem is a little thing called free will. And humanity. The insects are hard-wired to be completely selfless and work towards the success of the colony, where human beings care about things. And others.
In an insect society, when an individual can no longer serve the collective, they are exiled to die. An example being what happens to all the drones (males) in a bee hive, which are forced out of the hive once the queen has been inseminated. Once an individual cannot serve the collective, they become dead weight, and a liability to the collective. In human terms, the NHS has determined that kidney dialysis is too expensive to the system once a person has reached a certain age, and for the good of the collective, they are cut off.
Finally, when government controls all businesses and industry, you wind up with people running things who really don't know anything about the industries they're running. Perfect examples could be seen in the old Soviet Union (as well as Venezuela and Zimbabwe.)

They basically con the public into thinking that a few people can take care of all the necessities in life and the complexities in our world. After all these con men know the answer to everything and can solve every problem in the world better than the individual. By the way, most people that say this have never had a career in the private sector or ran their own successful private enterprise. Yet they really believe they know the answer to all the world’s problems and issues even though they have a little to no track record. Anyway they sell it as the only thing the public has to worry about is your entertainment expenses. That’s how they con the public.
Their main point is that people cannot be trusted to run their lives and only the government should have these very important powers that are going to do it for the “needs of the many” which is an every changing thing. In other words people should be dependent vs. independent in the pursuit of their own happiness.
The reality is that government that these con men said should have all the power are made up of the very people Socialism says the people should not trust. They claim there is accountability via elections every few years. That’s making the assumption elections are not rigged too and after having to put up with all the nonsense while you wait for the next elections.
The reality in our Constitution Republic that protects the minority from the majority via our Bill of Rights. For the most part we already have all the benefits they are selling. Nevertheless, they try to say their system is better even though we see failure after failure around the world of it.
Most of these clowns that try to sell this horse $hit are looking at very tiny issues in our society and claim it’s the worst thing ever. When nothing could be further from the truth.
Case in point, racism in society. They act like it’s really bad. In reality most crimes are black on black and not white on black (97% of crimes in the black community). The 3% that is racial is 10 to 1 black on white crime vs. white on black crime. This is according to the 2015 FBI crime report.
Although when you take a look at crime as an overall issue. It’s actually lower since the late 1990s. The highest crime we had in the country was in the late 1970s early 1980s, but most people did not know about it. Most crimes are committed by young adults and teens. Although we have had a huge drop since the invention of the Internet, game machines and Smart Phones.
