And you have the Kennedys to thank for that. In 1952 you had to have a sponsor for 5 years who would cover your finances, rent, food if you couldn’t, AND no welfare until after 5 years. This automatically cut immigration because not too many people wanted to take on that obligation, and not too many companies wanted to offer the promise of work. Like the idea of “skills based” immigration. People need to come here and go to work.
Ooooops. I meant the Kennedys did away with the law of sponsorship for 5 years and the promise of work. Sign...we get too soon old and too late smart.

Mexico and many nations have skilled doctors, engineers, nurses, tradesmen etc. They would be a valuable asset to our nation. These men and women stand in line for years because they try to immigrate to our great nation the legal way.
