This is the land of opportunity, and anyone who wants the come here can…legally. That’s not the issue. For the Trump White House, it’s been their stated position to shift our immigration policy toward allowing more high-skilled workers into this country.
As for the families of the low-skilled working immigration population in the country, 51 percent (76 percent counting immigrant-led households with children) are collecting some sort of check from our welfare services. Is that good? No. Does that mean we shut it all down? No. That figure comes from the Center for Immigration Studies, who noted the need for the immigration process to be more “selective.” At the same time, there are a lot of American households with children that are also getting some form of government assistance (via USA Today):
About 51% of immigrant-led households receive at least one kind of welfare benefit, including Medicaid, food stamps, school lunches and housing assistance, compared to 30% for native-led households, according to the report from the Center for Immigration Studies, a group that advocates for lower levels of immigration.
Those numbers increase for households with children, with 76% of immigrant-led households receiving welfare, compared to 52% for the native-born.
The findings are sure to fuel debate on the presidential campaign trail as Republican candidates focus on changing the nation's immigration laws, from calls for mass deportations to ending birthright citizenship..

How then do they survive in a relatively high-cost-of-living country of a first-world economy?
Most are poor, poorly educated, without skills.
In theory (which should be in FACT) they can't work because you have to provide proof of citizenship when applying for a job.
How are they paying for their housing, food, transportation, utilities, health care, child care?
That raises a great question. If it is not OK to ask if the student is a legal resident of the country or not, why is it OK to ask if there is a legal resident of that school district or not? Seems that they should not be allowed to ask if the student and family are residents of the school district. Fair is fair.
The USA is the greatest country in the world, a fact for which I give often thanks to the Good Lord.
I have no figures for this but I'll bet the USA is the most generous nation when it comes to legal immigrants. And that's okay as long as the benefits are not abused.
If a legal immigrant comes into this country and has marketable, needed skills, I have no objection to helping this person find housing, food, learn English, a job, etc. But this support needs to be limited in scope. Definite cutoff points have to be established and agreed to by everybody involved.
If worst comes to worst and the immigrant doesn't work out, they gotta leave. No fair staying here and sucking the benefits of the government teat.
They are win the business is getting free handouts from stupid Americans.
Restating the obvious does nothing for freepers. It can sway a few independents, if they are half honest. Keep in mind the liberfarians once favored open borders, now they stay mum.
That includes school lunches.
Most of which are free or reduced price.

20 million free lunches
2 million reduced price (student pays $0.40)
8 million full price
4.9 billion lunches are served annually
Leftards don't care. They believe in Keynesianism, which says that increases in government spending in peacetime, whether for public works or for social welfare is a source of prosperity.
But the economic consequences of Keynesianism is huge budget deficits, which requires more government borrowing, higher taxes, and creation of money out of thin air and inflation.
many are receiving approx $45,000 per year after all the government services are taken into account- do nothing and receive $45,000 worth of goods from the gubmint- no wonder they come here in droves-
A couple of studies done back in the early 2000’s showed that the US was spending between $400 BILLION DOLLARS and $600 BILLION DOLLARS per year on illegals- it’s likely even higher today- close to a trillion most likely- These figures took into account everything such as a criminal causing hte victim pain and suffering and medical expenses as well as lawyer costs, lost wages, having to replace stolen vehicles, stolen goods, etc- as well as the criminal costing the US money by getting ‘free lawyer’ to represent them, tying up our court systems, suing, being housed in prison at a rate of approx $145 per day, etc.
And the left witch about spending just $25 billion for a wall? It would save us between $375 BILLION DOLLARS and 1 TRILLION DOLLARS... PER YEAR
Those failed states themselves are the largest clients of US welfare - and we foot the bill. Like our cities, they exist with a taxpayer-subsidized pseudo-economy...
[[If we can make it unlawful to give welfare to non-citizens, much of the illegal problem will self-deport.]]
That’s precisely what trump was trying to do- but watch the lawsuits by the left if that is ever implemented- The left feel that it is their right to give OUR money to Illegal Invaders
The states with the highest number of immigrants are California, New York, and New Jersey.
Those states are in an economic death spiral since they have to keep their state taxes high in order to take care of their growing multitudes of government-dependent non-taxpaying immigrants and their children.
As a result, many of the middle-class and wealthy citizens of those states move to lower-tax states, and it’s on and on for the high-immigrant states into bankruptcy.
It's not "cheap labor". It's tax-payer funded labor, and it is not cheap.
In fact, why should we be paying for their legal defense for asylum, abortions, and all other welfare benefits they get while waiting for trial to determine if they can stay on welfare forever?
Odd how few facts we’ve had on ‘immigrants’ until recently. I guess it’s been one of the advantages democrats have - owning the boys in the press.

Here in NJ, education is funded locally - so when students are caught in our schools from another district they are sued for “tuition”. I guess the assumption is if they show a phone bill from the district, they are housed in a taxable property there (though that housing itself may be illegal).
I remember years ago there was a fire north of me (in Fort Lee, NJ - the west side of the George Washington Bridge). A few people died in the fire, and authorities were surprised how many people were living in makeshift units there. IIRC, there were four “rooms for rent” created in the basement, and people from four different countries were living in them. Certainly explains why there is never any parking in many areas, and why the only areas immune to this plague are those that don’t allow overnight parking on ANY street - a great defense against “thirdworldization” (though those wealthier areas often have higher taxes as well).
NYC charged a property owner after a fireman died fighting a fire under similar circumstances; he became lost because the building had been modified illegally (for illegal apartments), and was forced to jump from a few stories up to avoid being burned to death. The fall killed him, while others also forced to jump survived with injuries). These places are death traps, often with faulty wiring and inadequate escape routes (that was an issue in Fort Lee).
[[It’s not “cheap labor”. It’s tax-payer funded labor, and it is not cheap.]]
A TRILLION DOLLARS Per year it costs us approx. (When indirect costs are factored in to the direct costs)
Mexican are experts at abusing the welfare system.
WE pay for their Food-housing-welfare-phones-medical, the 0001% enjoy their cheap labor. We are subsidizing the Wealthy.
Pathetic isn't it. And that's not enough for the uniparty, so we have to import foreign born basket cases. There's no end to this madness.
