Political science professor John McAdams is going to be reinstated at Marquette University following a victory at the Wisconsin Supreme Court. He had been suspended by the school for writing a blog post critical of a graduate student.
"The undisputed facts show that the University breached its contract with Dr. McAdams when it suspended him for engaging in activity protected by the contract's guarantee of academic freedom," said the opinion written by Justice Daniel Kelly.
The state's high court ordered Marquette to "immediately reinstate Dr. McAdams with unimpaired rank, tenure, compensation, and benefits." ( Journal Sentinel )
The case started in 2014, when McAdams wrote a post criticizing a female student instructor for trying to shut down a debate about gay marriage. He used it as an example of liberals suppressing free speech. Yet, his post opened the instructor up to threats because he included a link to her personal website and her email address. McAdams was suspended for the post, but sued the school in 2016, insisting his contract promised him academic freedom and free expression protections. On Friday, the court ordered Marquette to immediately reinstate him.
Conservatives like Leah Vukmir, who is running to unseat Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-WI), cheered the result.
Congratulations to Professor @jmcadams for a big win at the Wisconsin Supreme Court for free speech!
Marquette has also issued a statement about the court's ruling. They will comply, but they disagreed with the decision in principle.
"Marquette will comply with the terms of this decision, and it does not change the universitys commitment to the safety and well-being of our students," the school said in a statement. "This case has always been about Associate Professor John McAdams conduct toward a student teacher. The professor used his personal blog to mock a student teacher, intentionally exposing her name and contact information to a hostile audience that sent her vile and threatening messages."
Illiberals. They only want free speech to happen when it’s pushing their cause.
One day at a time baby!
The liberal dam has cracks that are starting to become holes. Soon they will not be able to stem the tide.
Gerald Celente once called the original Tea Party the beginning of the second American Revolution.
God bless America!
Exactly.
Libs: Free speech for me but not for thee.
...and they have to pay him back. :)
Marquette story:
—
Some years ago friends had a son who was a Freshman at Marquette.
When he came home for Christmas vacation they were having dinner and all that he talked about were the evils of Capitalism.
Later in the evening he was going out and asked what car he could use.
They said,”None, filthy capitalism bought those cars-—and you can’t take your bike either, that was also bought by capitalist earnings”
They never let him take the car or bike again-——until he shut up.
.
He did not mock
He exposed a tight assed attitudinal bitch for the left wing tyrant she was
Yep, that’s fantastic.
I love it, hopefully he learned more from that than being at Marquette up to then.
A glass-half-empty pessimist. It may take more effort, but serve enough half full glasses and everyone’s thirst will still be quenched.
Support Free Republic, Folks!
Marquette ought to be embarrassed.
I wonder how he will be received in the teachers’ lounge?
John McAdams wins! Yay! He’s one of my heroes.
Why would he even want to go back?
This was made all about politics, rather than about constitutional and academic freedoms.
We are told in the article about the pathetic "PC" response by Marquette University, but no hint about what the Court determined actually happened.
Where can we read about what actually happened?
Doesn't matter.
I just hope those insane liberal professor have lots of personal worth to lose, individually, should they choose "retaliation."
