Yes Gail but as far as the English Crown was concerned they were born on English soil...

so they were British...

Plus if you check their ancestry ...fathers were English born living in those countries...Wales was part of England The Prince of Wales title stems from around 1100...Scotland had been fully under the English crown and law for more than 100 years ...since 1764 the “Scots” by law could not speak their native tongues only English and were forbidden to wear their tartans...and Ireland and her bogs had been subdued ...but these would have been “Englishmen”...they never stopped being “English” even if the family had lived in Ireland for several generations...

All 56 were English...equally subjects of the English Crown...born English...of English parents...no immigration necessary...

Highlander Scots held out the longest, until the bribes, murders, and the horrendous killing of William Wallace happened. “The Bruce” was a turncoat in the end for English gold and land. Did it bring peace, NOT REALLY until decades later after all the Lairds had intermarried with the Brits and had land in both places.

I have never considered those countries that were Subjugated by England as English, they sure were not treated the same, and were looked down on by the Brits, still are.
