...FBI agents later interviewed Marrero's ex-girlfriend, who confirmed that she was 17 at the time the pictures were taken. A conviction will force Marrero to register as a sex offender and could land him in prison for up to 30 years. According to the U.S. Department of Justice's guide to federal child pornography law, "a first time offender convicted of producing child pornography...face fines and a statutory minimum of 15 years to 30 years maximum in prison." Under Ohio law, which also sets the cutoff for child pornography at 18, Marrero would have faced between six months and eight years. ...

“This is insane. The FBI is completely out of control. And there’s nothing anyone can do about it.”

Keep in mind these mandatory sentencing laws came about because LEFT WING judges simply wouldn’t put people in jail, if they happen to belong to certain ‘victim groups’.

For example, if someone from LaHood raped a white girl with a MAGA Hat, there was NO WAY that the perp would be punished - hence the sentencing laws.

So (to everyone) be careful with getting worked up about these cases and wanting to get rid of the mandatory sentencing laws, THEY ARE NEEDED, and that can be confirmed simply by how insane these judges are acting towards Trump.

Remember, the media wants us worked up over cases like this, just to get us to support getting rid of the laws. The laws do need tweaking/fixing, not wholesale abandonment - otherwise we’ll be back to the huge crime levels of a generation ago.

The “Old Testament” contains the “Perfect Law ofLiberty” that James the brother of our savior credited with our righteousness.

Dismiss it at your own peril, but don’t drag others down too.

Yes, I’ve noticed that a certain type of middle-aged man can always find a righteous reason to have sex with a 13 year old girl.

“Don’t do the crime if you don’t want to do the time”.

The solution?

Sex within marriage. Eliminating all sexual restraint, all morality leads to miseries of all kinds.

A girl three years and one day old can become sanctified [for marriage, i.e. engaged] through intercourse; and if she had relations with a yavam [one obligated to perform leverite marriage], he has acquired her [as his wife]; and one is liable for [having relations with] a married woman on her account [if she is married]; and she renders one who sleeps with her impure [if she is a niddah] such that he renders impure that which he sits upon, the lower [layer of bedding, even if he does not touch it directly], just like the upper [layer of bedding]. If she marries a priest, she can eat terumah. If someone invalid [for the priesthood] had relations with her, she becomes invalid for the priesthood. If any one of the illicit relatives stated in the Torah had relations with her, they are put to death on her

Well, if they put him on trial, and it comes out that his girl friend was 5 hours short of being 18, I am going to let him go. I don’t care if he confessed. He had either no or very poor legal representation. I will not ruin his life over that. So there.

Well, there is always jury nullification. This overcriminalization crap has to stop. I am at a point where if I am on a jury and am presented with someone who broke a law I consider unjust, I am letting them walk.

By his own admission, he had seen the roommate’s child porn collection and not only didn’t report him...he shared his ex-girlfriend’s picture.
He’s had no problems with that and appeared at the pedophile’s trial as a friendly witness.

Your assertion that something external to this creepy guy’s exhibited character could ruin his life has no merit of any kind.

The crime here is trafficking child porn.

So why is the FBI ignoring all the junior high and high school students who are sending one another naked pictures?

Indeed for 2 weeks in 2014, the FBI was the worlds largest purveyor of child porn.

I suppose they will just lock themselves up and throw the key out through the bars.

Being creepy is not illegal, nor should it be. I believe you are innocent until proven guilty, and that you have a right to a competent lawyer, which this guy clearly did not have. And if I am not convinced that the picture in question qualifies as kiddie porn, then he can share it all he wants, especially if she agreed to have it taken.

You have unlocked the “completely failed to comprehend the article” achievement.

Congratulations.

The creepy consumer of child pornography’s lawyer advised him to invoke the fifth amendment. So our creepy guy didn’t have “and incompetent lawyer.” He ignored his lawyer. I would say that the truth of the matter is that his lawyer has an incompetent client.

If he is incompetent, then he should not be on trial. Another reason to let him go.
