As long as they get to be the Captain of the sinking Titanic, the Leftists don’t care (the Soviet Union proved that). They will even try to steer towards an iceberg if they think it will help achieve that goal.
Since the true haters are often delusional, some of them may actually be internally misdirected; that is, what starts as a tactic to divert attention from reality--analogous to the attention diverting antics of a concert hall magician--may in some cases morph into a "sincere" belief in the relevance of the fantasy. But that fantasy, being a fantasy--prevents a constructive answer to any "problem."
