PHOENIX, Arizona -- A 92-year-old woman is charged with murder after deputies say she fatally shot her own son because she thought he wanted to move her to an assisted living facility.
The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office says Anna Mae Blessing had lived with her 72-year-old son Thomas and his girlfriend at the girlfriend's condo for the last six months.
Court records show she believed her son and his girlfriend were talking about putting her in the facility because she had become "difficult to deal with."
According to detectives, Blessing hid two handguns in the pockets of her robe and confronted her son in his room Monday morning.

Jeanne Calment the oldest person in the world at the age of 90 signed a life estate contract with a lawyer where he would pay her 2500 francs until she died, he then would take ownership of her apartment. He was 47 at the time and die 30 years later. Because the contract was for the duration of her life, his estate had to pay her for 2 more years until she died at the age of 122. Moral of the story? you never know how long a person will live.
She’s 92, she had him at about age 20. That’s why he isn’t in his 50s.
Assisted living? What a widespread epic con job that is.
Unwarranted assumptions on your part.
Exactly. That was what I was thinking — she’s gonna be in assisted living now!

“She enticed me”
There’s also a 911 call you can listen to.
Somebody should've hid the guns.
What you miss is this highlights the nature of need. You understand your own needs but are unaware of the other person.
Grandma had basic needs unfullfilled. Sonny was inept. The violent extent mother went to announce her needs loudly, demonstrates a lot goes on we are unaware of.
Pethaps Grandma would have been better off with an empathic daughter than an isolating son.
Very appropriate, as she put her son in Assisted Dying.
I can readily, believe that!
I notice the change(the conversion), when my Mom became a Grandmother. To her Grandchildren, became the center of her universe.
God Bless all Grandmas.
Depends on the facility. And whether or not you’re paying your own way or are on Medicaid.
But not one bit less unwarranted, and more supported by the given facts of the matter than the things said about her by other posters on this thread.
Your self very much included, hypocrite.
This woman believed her heirs wished to force her into some home. The story stipulates that she was right. She prepared accordingly. She was cognizant enough not only to arm herself, but to have a backup weapon.
Nothing at all backs up the notion that she was irrational or had any
misconceptions at all.
So.
Unless you can come up with an article which interjects facts not shown here consider yourself JUSTIFIABLY corrected. If (and only if) you find such an article then you can justifiably correct me. I will then deliver a mea culpa because that is what honest people do.
You’re welcome.
Well, that’s one pistol packin mama.
and the 72 year old son had a girlfriend?
Sometimes even the most empathetic aren’t safe. Dementia isn’t classed as a mental illness, and that is unfortunate in the respect that certain dementia patients aren’t treated with the concern given to mentally ill patients who are a danger to themselves and/or others.
That French system is called “viager”.
Maggie Smith did a movie about it,”My Old Lady”-——quite humorous.
(It was not about the case that you mentioned.)
.
Shell be in a form of assisted living
Shes a feisty one.
It is a scam if you ask me. A friend’s parents decided they wanted to go live in one. Her mother fell in the shower and broke her hip and no one found her for hours. Her dad was busy with activities they have for them to attend and until he went back to their “apartment” and found her no one realized she was missing or injured. Where does the “assisted” part come in? From what I could tell they just paid a ton of money to live in a very tiny apartment.
Granny Daisy Moses never shot anyone on Beverly Hillbillies.
