As President Donald Trump moves closer to nominating a Supreme Court justice, Democrats are scrambling for a strategy to stop a nominee that would tilt the court in a more conservative direction and reverse liberal gains.
The retiring Justice Anthony Kennedy was a swing voter who at times sided with the courts liberal and conservative wings. Trump now has the chance to alter the courts ideological balance in a manner that could reshape fundamental aspects of American life.

Liberals fear their favored positions on everything from abortion rights to marriage equality to affirmative action could be threatened. Some also believe Trump could select a justice who would cast deciding votes on constitutional questions stemming from Special Counsel Robert Muellers investigation, like whether a sitting president can be indicted or pardon himself.
Kennedys retirement means Democrats are now looking hard for a plan to block Trumps pick, or delay a confirmation vote until after the November midterm election, where Democrats are within striking distance of retaking the Senate....

As if democrats haven’t been ferociously fighting to alter the balance of the Supreme Court for 100 years.
And they have had great success in appointing justices who will adjudicate to implement leftist policies rather than uphold constitutional rights and principles.
Neither of those questions is subject to the jurisdiction of the courts.
Not only strike down the 9th regularly, but Thomas has served notice that the ongoing district court activism, with their nationwide injunctions, will not be tolerated any longer. Add another true conservative to the team and we can be sure he’ll make this happen. That’s the end of the game for dems who win always and only through activist judges.
They ain’t got the votes to stop it.
Trump’s pick is going to be seated.
Whatever strategy they come up with, it definitely will be stupid and futile.
Like if president Trump nominates Sarah Palin? Actually that'd be so awesome
Dems play a dangerous game:
1. President Trump nominates Judge Barrett (or some other worthy; there are a bunch).
2. Dems oppose; Murkowski and Collins go south; Dems stick together; McConnell can’t round up the votes, announces the nomination’s on hold until after the election.
3. Dem obstruction gooses Republican turnout.
4. Four (or 5, or 8. or 10) Dems in pro-Trump states go down to defeat.
5. McConnell waits to early January, Justice Barrett confirmed 56 - 44 by the Republican (58 seats) Senate.
Not sure what their panic is about. They already have mccain and collins in their pocket; they just need to offer more money to murkowski, and an MSNBC gig to Flake.
I don’t understand how Murkowski wins in the GOP primary in Alaska. The first time was a write-in campaign using teachers’ unions. Don’t Alaskan GOP voters care how bad she is?
The hate-filled, degenerate Democrat lowlifes have been outclassed in every possible way by President Donald Trump. If they were of average intelligence they would know it and stop fighting him, but they are very stupid people of less than average intelligence, and they have no idea just how profoundly he has danced rings around them.
Why does a court “shape fundamental aspects of American life”?
Courts shouldn’t have such power to begin with.
McCain’s last act will be a yeah.
Trump will get one or both of the squishy women.
With statements like this the website should change its name from PolitiFact to PolitiDream.
Ya fergot “Exaggerate, then make make up exaggerations extrapolating from your exaggerations ...”
Agree.
Unless something totally unexpected gets revealed in the confirmation hearings, Trump gets his pick through.
Collins and Murkowski will do the right thing this time.
Tired old replay of the Bork playbook.
Not gonna work this time for a number of reasons.
- The media monopoly that allowed them to bork judges is GONE.
- Polls show the majority of the American people support Trump on judges.
- For reasons I can’t quite fathom Mitch McConnell appears to have grown a spine on this one issue.
Weve read their books.
