President Trump issued a proclamation Tuesday ordering flags flown at half-staff on federal buildings to honor the five victims of the Capital Gazette shooting in Annapolis, Md., the White House said.
The decision follows a request over the weekend by Annapolis Mayor Gavin Buckley (D), which he said was initially not granted.

During a news conference on the Annapolis waterfront Tuesday morning, Buckley thanked Trump but relayed frustration over the process.
“We waited all of Saturday, all of Sunday,” Buckley said. “We understood maybe there was some communications problems. We waited all day Monday and didn’t hear anything.”

The U.S. flag is flown at half-staff on federal buildings by presidential proclamation as a sign of respect after the deaths of public officials or noteworthy figures and after some mass shootings. In 2016, for example, it was flown at half-staff 53 times, including after mass killings in Orlando and Brussels. More recently, it flew at half-staff after 10 people were killed at a high school in Santa Fe, Tex.

No! Not to dimiss the deaths, but lowering the flag should be reserved for traditional reasons, not every time someone or a group die.
Because “journalists” are soooooooo much more important than anybody else.....

I had to read the article most of the way thru till I learned this was all done on Tuesday(today) Not for the 4th. I like many automatically thought it would be done on the 4th. Note that it was done over 50 times 2016 and for other events of this nature.

Exactly. Well, he’s the POTUS, and as our duly elected leader, he can order whatever he desires, especially for the federal govt., but MY flag here on MY property is flying high at full staff ,unfolding in a nice breeze, this 4th of July morning. And it will NOT honor a bunch of left-wing, anti-American, insane nutjobs called “reporters” or “journalists”. Too much real American blood was been shed for that flag for it to have to honor her enemies from within. Screw that.....full staff it is. MAGA!!
The lowering of flags to half staff has been bestowed so trivially it has lost all meaning.

This is becoming a common occurrence, and it is wrong headed.
Flags are to be flown at half staff ONLY for the death of a head of state. This nonsense displaying the flag in such manner - for every Tom, Dick and harry that dies - diminishes and trivializes the honor. I refuse to acquiesce to this foolishness.
Put the flags back up. They hate us and this country.
