SF’s appalling street life repels residents — now it’s driven away a convention
San Francisco Chronicle ^

In a move that is alarming San Francisco’s biggest industry, a major medical association is pulling its annual convention out of the city — saying its members no longer feel safe.

“It’s the first time that we have had an out-and-out cancellation over the issue, and this is a group that has been coming here every three or four years since the 1980s,” said Joe D’Alessandro, president and CEO of S.F. Travel, the city’s convention bureau.

“Not feeling safe” is probably code for grossed out.

I have this premonition of some future version of the Art Bell show hundreds of years from now interviewing guest after guest all with different opinions, about what was the final outrage that caused the Almighty to plunge SF beneath the Pacific one day, where it remains, like Atlantis or Mu, an Enigma to the ages.

Yep. I went there in the mid 90s and again in the mid 2000s. There were tons of bums and beggars and derelicts and panhandlers then - probably more than I’d seen anywhere. I have no desire to return.

hmmmmm.....

I wonder if Joe D’Alessandro is any relation to Nancy D’Alesandro Pelosi. I know that they spell their birth surname differently.

Maybe she is an embarrassment to him.

They probably plan to hold their convention in a safer and more sanitary place.

Calcutta comes to mind.

When a possible move to Baltimore or Chicago was brought up, the Doctors preferred Vegas or Aruba.

In 1972 the albacore boat I was working on spent a few weeks in SF for engine repairs and we had a great time. Plenty of hippies around but it was pretty clean in general - great food, loose women, all a 20 year old could ask for. I could have purchased a houseboat in Sausalito for $5K.
The idiots running that city should be strung up for what's been allowed to happen.

I guess I hadn’t gotten out of my car much over the last 15 years but, I’ve had two appointments in the city recently and gotta say it was an awful experience.

SFO needs to borrow the Guliani book and clean this crap up.

Perhaps the demographics are different in SanFRancisco?

I gather that reason, logic and commons sense are still absent in Detroit?

Oh! Has there been an “end result” in Detroit, yet?

doctors convention, which brings in $40 million in spending over 5 days decides SF is no longer a safe place to have a convention...

...

They’ll need to raise taxes to make up for it.

What you mean that the good doctors don’t relish walking over puddles if p*ss and piles of sh*t to get to their $350 a night hotel room. Evidently a bunch of unsophisticates from fly-over country.

My kids and I always loved visiting San Francisco but we just simply won’t go now. It’s a shame.

What they lost in Doctors Convention I’m sure they more than made up in the intravenous drug users and fudge packers convention.

None of these are repelled by a few piles of human feces...

My brother and his wife went to San Fransicko several years ago to a building trades convention.

The best time to make connections is at the bar; he could not get anything because he was constantly being harassed by homosexuals the whole time he was there.

He got so disgusted he left the next day; his wife got so disgusted she left the day after he did.

Ahh, it reminds me of the time when I saw Tony Bennett at the Fairmont in San Francisco singing “I left my poop in San Francisco”...Bagdad by the shi**er.

SF is about to find out that it’s a lot harder to restore order than to enable liberal disorder. Good luck trying to put the toothpaste back into the tube, hippie commies. Or to get the homeless to get a job, or to poop in potties now that they can “go anywhere.”
