Despite that, his coattails were still not enough to get the Republicans a majority in Congress. Reagan always had to cut deals with Tip O'Neil.
Of course, all the good Reagan did was quickly undone by George HW Bush and then Clinton.
I'm hoping Mike Pence (or whoever succeeds Trump) is able to carry the Trump legacy forward.
With Reagan they had George Bush already in place so it was easy, I don't think Pence is a globalist tool but he's not a Trumpian populist either so I don't know how he'd fare in that food fight. But they won't just hand it to him, I'll bet that.
I will also say this: the fact that we are comparing Trump to Ronald Reagan, in terms of domestic accomplishments and historical international achievements, is astonishing. Reagan is the benchmark that nobody in the GOP ever lives up to, in spite of all promising us they are Reagan redux. To many of us he is hands down the greatest President they've ever experienced. Nobody ever compared either Bush to Reagan, at least not favorably. Nor should they have. But Trump, ah, Trump. Yes, the comparisons just percolate up naturally.
Yea, those Bushes were really something (Barf)
