If I correctly understand her complaint, the fact that she lived in an apartment until she was 5 is supposed to establish her as Ghetto For Life. Neither the little house with nice trees nor Brown University had any effect on her.
Reminds me of all the rappers who talk about growing up “in da hood”, when most of them really grew up in nice, middle-class communities.

I think her complaint was she went to Boston U, not Brown.
That said, that bullcrap about “scrubbing toilets”. I scrub toilets every week, and don’t get paid for it :)
Add to that, I believe the Parckchester Apartments, at least as it was through 1994 when she was 5 years old, wasn't the ghetto either. They are lower middle class to middle class condos. It was considered a good area.
