So now Senate seats are offered to family members. The Constitution truly is a piece of parchment paper in a museum. I cry for this great republic!

That has been the traditional pattern, when a male Senator dies.

IIRC, that is how Missouri's McCaskill got her Senate seat.

Totally wrong on McCaskill. it was “the widow Carnahan!”

Mel Carnahan died in an electioneering car accident & his widow was elected to th seat under the banner, “I still remember Mel!”
