Venezuela's inflation rate tops 40,000 per cent for first time ever

Venezuela's inflation rate has hit a new high with consumer prices in the crisis-ridden country rising by more than 40,000 per cent annually for the first time on record, according a top economist.

**SNIP**

Venezuela's government has largely stopped reporting economic data, including internal measures of inflation. The Central Bank of Venezuela, which did not immediately respond to request for comment, has not independently released inflation figures in at least a year.

**SNIP**

Mr Abadia said Venezuela is a "disaster area" and that as long as Mr Maduro is in power, the economy will "continue to collapse." But Mr Maduro reaffirmed his tight grip on power last month, easily winning another six-year term in what was widely condemned as a fraudulent election.

1/10,000th of that would ruin the US economy.

I wonder if gold has kept up. Certainly hasn’t in the US.

Of course. Everyone is “equal”. Except those running everything, but someone’s got to do the dirty work, right?

A few years ago, I bought five of those notes (1/2 quadrillion dollars!). Gave them to friends and relatives so we’d never be broke again. Being a trillionaire gives one a warm and fuzzy feeling.

Fill a couple dozen or more C-5’s with Marxist Liberals from the USA and let them live in Venezuela or even Iran for a year. Call it Reality Training. In fact, ship 90% of the US Congress with them. Sound like a plan?

"....The public gets nothing but what it deserves, since it reelected maduro. They have none of my sympathy....."

Do you really believe all of the starving people in Venezuela re-elected the guy who's starving them? Seriously?

Maduro, like his mentor, Hugo Chavez, is a de facto dictator. They jailed or killed the opposition candidates and rigged the elections in their favor. Chavez said after one election that he had the support of the people of Venezuela because 100% of them voted for him. 100%? Really?

The people of Venezuela didn't elect Maduro. He elected himself.

Remember what Hillary did to Bernie in the democRAT primary in 2016? She took over control of the DNC and then had DNC chair Wasserman-Shultz rig the votes so she would win and he could not. Hillary eventually paid him off with an expensive lakeside home in return for him bowing out.

If that can happen here in America in plain sight, imagine how little chance Maduro's opponents have of defeating him, when he controls everything, including the vote counting.

The people of Venezuela don't deserve Maduro, anymore than the Cuban people deserve Castro or the starving North Koreans deserve Little Fat Boy. You make it sound like these people had a choice. They didn't.

That's why thousands and thousands have fled the country for the basic necessities of life. With an inflation rate above the 40,000 annual percentage range, if any goods were available in the stores, which they are not, they would be unaffordable. Dump truck loads of money would be needed just to go to the supermarket.

With no food, no basic necessities like soap and toilet paper and any money they do have being worthless, do you really think these people re-elected Maduro? They didn't.

($1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000) bill from Zimbabwe’s original money.

You mean from when the currency inherited the financials from Rhodesia? You remember, the former British Colony of Southern Rhodesia which became the pariah independent country of Rhodesia (1965-79) before succumbing to the anti-colonialist wave and their 95% native population to become that beacon of greatness under Robert Mugabe who only last year surrendered his political posts.
