Amy Coney Barrett would make a politically shrewd replacement for Justice Kennedy

Michael Brendan Dougherty has some advice for President Trump that I think is worth repeating, in regards to replacing Justice Anthony Kennedy this fall: Appoint Amy Coney Barrett, Trump's recent addition to the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals.

The facts of Barrett’s life — that she is a mother of seven children, and that when she speaks about her Catholic faith, she speaks about God as if she really believes in His existence — will provoke nasty and bigoted statements from Democratic senators and liberal media personalities. Again...It won’t just be her faith. In 2012, a columnist chastised two Republican presidential candidates for their “smug fecundity.” For Barrett, the comments on the number of children she has are likely to be much worse. The fact is that women nominated for positions of authority often inspire hysterical and self-defeating reactions in those who oppose them.

I agree. For one thing, Barrett is only 46 years old and could easily serve on the court until 2060. It also doesn't hurt to put a conservative woman on the court. But in addition, this would be an especially shrewd move ahead of the midterm elections.

“Her being a Catholic makes me question her discernment.”

Keep in mind one of the greatest justices, Antonin Scalia, was a devout Catholic who had a brother who is a Catholic priest.

As much as I’m sure she would uphold our freedom of religion and stand with pro-Christian cases, it’s more than that for me as a born-again Christian.

I’m more interested in how she sees the Constitution and would she make her decisions, solely on its original intent.

And yes, I would like to know if she believes the Constitution gives the president the authority to enforce our border laws, or does she believe that the pope, who is liberal in these matters, has the preeminence in her decisions.

Recall all the high expectations of Sandra Day O’Connor.....she sided with the libs on many important issues. The bet here is Trump will go for the throat and not select Mrs. Barret.

I like her ... but I still think we need for President Trump to receive wisdom and discernment from the Lord about this decision.

Many American Catholics are completely fed up with the phony pope and don’t look up to him.

The current pope, like all before him is just another man. Period. He has no special channel or connection to God than you or I do. To say otherwise completely obliterates one of the core tenets of Christianity that Christ died on the Cross for our sins and in doing so the veil was torn removing all barriers between God and man, thereby enabling each and every one of us to enter into a relationship directly with God our Father.

What's happening is that because of this pope, more and more catholics are figuring exactly that out and IMO that's a good thing.

President Trump nominated a Caucasian male last time. It would be polio beneficial for him to nominate someone other than a white male this time, just saying. Doesn’t have to be a white woman.

Also, we need strong pro-death penalty person on the court and pro gun. Catholics don’t exactly do it for me on these two issues.

I’m pulling for Jim Ho or Noel Francisco... but given that Gorsuch was the first, I will have a good amount of faith on whomever President Trump nominates next.

The Catholic Church’s official position on immigration is that people have a right to seek a better life, and countries have a right to regulate their borders and expect immigrants to respect the native customs, language, laws, etc. All intelligent Catholics know that any pope’s views on immigration are largely prudential, not authoritative, and that his religious competence in this area is pretty limited. Intelligent Catholics know also that this particular pope has a bad habit of running his mouth about things that are none of his business, and discount his pronouncements accordingly.

Having 7 kids develops patience. It also allows you to tune out noise and since she will be surrounded by liberal women she needs to be able to do that.

Now what everyone is forgetting is men have those traits too, after all they have to deal with us every day

Speaking of the Pope, I found a video of one if her lectures last night on YouTube where she agreed that this Pope is a ‘good Catholic’.

Now, I’m not Catholic and maybe I’ve got it all wrong, but this Pope strikes me as a serious social left winger, and for her to agree with that, I find it deeply concerning if she were the nominee.
