First they came for your shoes, then your water. Now TSA is coming for your snacks.

They came for your laptops. And for your liquids, and your shoes. Now, the Transportation Security Administration is coming for your snacks. Passengers at airports around the country — including all three of the Washington region’s major airports — are reporting that, increasingly, TSA agents are instructing them to remove their snacks and other food items from their carry-ons and place them in those ubiquitous plastic bins for separate screening.

It’s not part of agency’s standard policy, according to TSA spokesman Mike England. It’s simply a recommendation issued by the agency last year to help speed the bag-check process. Screening supervisors at airports have the discretion to decide whether, and when, to demand passengers proffer up their pretzel packs for a solo trip through the X-ray machine.

But the “recommendation” appears to be gaining steam and moving rapidly into the territory of de-facto protocol, according to travelers who have received snack-related notices from their airlines, and who have been informed by rank-and-file TSA screeners that the snack checks are now standard practice.

The joys of multiculturalism.

Every time I go through TSA, I'm reminded why I hate muslims. When we fight in those muslim s**tholes, we should make it policy to achieve highest body count possible. I miss the days when we counted corpses.

I paid for five years of TSA Precheck and it is worth every penny. No taking off shoes, no separating liquids from carryon, no long line to wait in.

Agree. Worth every penny.

As a weekly flyer for business, it didn’t take long to figure out the TSA idiots enjoy wielding power over travelers who are professionals, and look like they have money. I have watched the single digit IQ TSA agents pick on people who look like business executives and make them go back thru the metal detectors, pull them aside for additional checks etc. The TSA is the biggest waste of taxpayer money in history.

Tsa precheck is mafia like business model run by the government to extract $85 from you. First they make “security” screening an obnoxious, intrusive an very time consuming process. Then for the aforementioned $85 they let you go back to the previous rules for 5 years. If you fly Southwest on a regular basis Southwest airlines will usually put you on the prescreen list for free.

I’ve flown alot in last few years - I started realizing when they would pull me aside for nuts, lemons, sandwich etc I happen to have in carryon so I just automatically take out bag of liquids and anything else I have with me that I think is questionable. I don’t get pulled aside for my carryon items anymore but recently absentmindedly wore a t-shirt with metal on it - that lead to a clothed pat down by TSA so I will be more conscious of clothing choice going forward.

I’d rather they screen because they can possibly thwart true attack - but many screeners remind me of super market employees - just hangin around looking busy but not really working - putting in hours for a paycheck not real concerned for actual purpose of job or timeliness of their work to help customer.

It’s all fun and games until TSA snags my bag of Milky Way Minis...then the war is on.

You are right on target as I feel the same way. In the past it used to be a pleasurable event, but not anymore, just another reason I gave up on it, besides it is not a necessity for me to fly. It is a shame that our society has become increasingly more and more violent as well as crazy to make all these security checkpoints a life saving necessity, and anyway you look at it a good portion of it being due to some radicalized screwed up religion. No doubt that most clear thinking people get the idea.

But at the same token the consolation is that in the not too distant future, and I have a feeling that this time is rapidly approaching, religious believes, politics, and amongst others security checks at airports will be the least of our concern or problems as what Mother Earth will throw at us will take all of our perseverance and will just to survive and forget about all the rest. And it has nothing to do with any either real or imaginary influence by humans upon the overall environment.

I used to fly with 6 bottles of formula for my baby and had to get each bottle opened and scanned for explosives. Because blonde moms with obvious babies are going to blow up the plane.

I have been robbed going through their screenings. Some money in a bin, lots of them standing around clueless. When I asked where was my money they told me they’re not responsible for that!!!

Unreal, they’re useless. I had a scanner dude tell me my job was to pick up all the empty bins on the exit side. I told him it was his job, mine is to collect my belongings. You could see him seething that somebody would talk back to him....power drunk screeners in a uniform.

The people scanners like too. 9 of 10 times I’ll get the same crotch area flagged, no matter what I’m wearing...followed by the usual groping.

It is pathetic.

If you leave an airport with “Clear” kiosks, consider joining.

Does wonders in Orlando.

You pay a fee, they do a background check and the you get fast tracked at the airport security.
